Chapter 14 - Chapter 14 - Loss (He Couldn’t Find Relief but He Also Somewhat Enjoyed It.)

He was frantically looking for her? How was this possible?

A dull cry reached her ear and Xu WanZhi, finally recollected herself, walked up to them quickly. "I am right here…"

The man on the ground had already rolled his eyes and passed out in pain.

Mu ZhenYu stood up straight and looked at her; his eyes filled with biting coldness. He took two steps forward and chastised her, "Who said you could go running around?"

Xu WanZhi was startled as well. She opened her mouth a little and said in a soft voice, "I… I just came out for some fresh air."

Unexpectedly, Mu ZhenYu grabbed her wrist forcefully the next second and started dragging her in the other direction.

Noticing that it didn't look right, Shen Yi stepped in front of the two of them and said, "Boss Mu, let's be reasonable here."

Mu ZhenYu didn't care about him at all but just bumped him off with his broad shoulder.

Xu WanZhi was dragged to the garden behind the venue by him.

Ruthlessness exuded from him and the entire pack of cigarettes was roughly pulled open. Even the wrapper was torn and a segment of the tobacco leaves were exposed. He paused in the middle of his action for a second and shoved the cigarettes back into his pocket.

Xu WanZhi could tell that he was trying as hard as he could to keep his emotions under control. She just didn't know what had set him off.

Mu ZhenYu's temples were throbbing. As if he had finally made up his mind, he stared at her viciously and questioned her, "Who said you could just run around like that?"

Xu WanZhi replied honestly, "I couldn't chime in to your conversations and it was hot inside, so I came out for some fresh air."

"It's hot inside?" He reached out his slender and long finger, flicked the strap on her dress, then he tugged the collar of his suit jacket. "I am wearing way more than you are."

"I am different from you." She said calmly, trying as best she could to not enrage him. "My body temperature is higher than yours. I can withstand the cold weather but not any heat at all."

He was still staring at her without, saying a word.

"I am serious." Her look was more genuine.

Years of being a demon have taught her to fight when she could or try and reason when she couldn't.

Nonetheless, the man in front of her was still unmoved. His eyes were like two cold lakes, and she couldn't read his emotions in them.

Xu WanZhi sighed, stood on her toes, and placed her hand on the back of his head.

That way their foreheads would touch each other. This position looked so affectionate that anyone who saw them together would believe in what she had just said – Huanyu had gone bankrupt and she was still staying with him. This was true love.

Mu ZhenYu couldn't explain why his heartbeat had intensified. And then, a frustration rose from inside of him and filled his chest.

It was not the same as the anger that he felt when he noticed that Xu WanZhi was gone and that his old man's lackey was still watching him. There was a shred of sweetness mixed in this frustration.

He couldn't find relief but he also somewhat enjoyed it.

Her forehead was burning up in a very obvious way, as though she was running a high fever. But she had no other symptoms tonight other than saying that she felt hot.

Her little hand was clumsily placed on the back of his head, and her mouth was tightened stiffly, looking like she was trying very hard to convince him.

Seeing her like that, Mu ZhenYu's heart softened a little. He took a deep breath and suddenly remembered the day when it was pouring and she insisted on sleeping on his couch because she was afraid of thunder.

That night, when he carried her onto bed, her body touched his abdomen. Surely, her temperature was slightly higher than his.

He was speechless but most of his anger was gone.

"That's fine if you want to get out. Just let me know and I'll accompany you." Mu ZhenYu pulled her hand off, and then, pushing down on her shoulders, he had her stand back down on the bottom of her feet. At the same time, his tone mellowed out a lot. "Don't just disappear without a word. Plus, isn't it hot outside also?"

Xu WanZhi finally let out a sigh of relief and grumbled softly, "Whether it was outside or inside, it's particularly hot because of you…"

What she said was the truth, but judging from the way Mu ZhenYu looked, what she said had very different meanings in his ears.

To prevent matters from escalating, she decided it's now a good time to stop talking.

Mu ZhenYu picked up her wrist again, turned, and walked toward the parking garage with her in tow. Inside the black multi-purpose vehicle, there was the smell of a new car. Sitting in the passenger seat, she watched as Mu ZhenYu leaned halfway into the car and adjusted the A/C to max personally.

Then, he went over to the trunk to retrieve something.

Xu WanZhi's heart was up in the air. The idea that she couldn't shake from her head was that he went to retrieve a weapon. That when he'd returned, he'd strike her and kill her.

She was even more panicky as she couldn't use any of her magic.

Unexpectedly, when he returned to the driver seat, he had a coconut in his hand. The kind that was already opened up, with a straw.

He handed the coconut to her and asked, "Feel any better?"

He had just bought a new car, and there were already coconuts in it? He brought them for her specifically?

Xu WanZhi dared not wait any longer. She accepted the coconut from him and took a sip. It was chilled, like it just came out of a refrigerator. The light-headedness associated with heat stroke disappeared immediately, only a sweet and chill sensation remained with her.

She nodded and said in a very soft voice, "Thank you."

Mu ZhenYu's broad body leaned against the back of the seat. After a little while, he finally asked her, "Were you frightened?"

"No," said Xu WanZhi as she shook her head. Then she took two more sips of the coconut juice solemnly.

When she sipped the coconut juice, her cheeks would puff up repeatedly, like some furry critters. That reminded him a lot of her little fox.

After a little while, when she had calmed down some, she turned to him and asked, "Are you worried that your dad would kidnap me? But why would he want to do that?"

"It has nothing to do with him." Staring in front of himself, he said in a controlled tone, seemingly casually, "I just don't like others disappearing from my sight, get it?"

Xu WanZhi knew that there was no purpose to ask any further, she nodded docilely and said, "I won't do that again."

Mu ZhenYu gave her a low "Mmm" before he started the car. "Let's go home."

The car lurched forward.

He remembered the summer when he was 14 years old, when he and his mother suddenly disappeared from each other's sight. Two months later, when he escaped from the thieves' den back to home, his grandmother told him that his mother cried so much that she turned blind and died in a car accident.

Back then, he thought he had nothing more to lose.

Back in their apartment, Mu ZhenYu went straight to shower.

Misty cold water splattered on his firm abdominal muscles. He wiped his face with his hand and he could still smell the hint of flowery smell that was her scent.

It was not some kind of scent that could come from any luxurious perfume. A hint of the scent got onto him and it seemed he wasn't able to wash it off at all.

He seemed to still be able to feel her small waist on the tips of his fingers. Thin and soft, her waist was ridiculously agile.

And she just used such a soft voice to say his name. When he urged that she not leave his sight, she had nodded oh so docilely.

This contract lover seemed to have a very intact work ethic. Perhaps a bit too intact.

Her tiny face was so ridiculously pretty and her voice so soft and melodious. When she gave Liang ZhiQuan a hard time, it had given him such joy.

At the very beginning, he had spent 50 million yuan as a way to get rid of the Liang's. But now, the issue of the Liang's seemed less and less important to him.
