Zhan Yu painstakingly tried to recall, 'What city did the female and male protagonists live in again? Sheng- what?' He remembered how the author liked the female protagonist so much that for the city's name was also different...
'That's right!'
Zhan Yu asked in a hurry: "Is this Shengjin City?"
Zhan Qiancheng carefully observed him, but after a while, his eyes were still inquisitive and clear. Seems like this wasn't a prank, so he could only nod.
Zhan Yu suddenly felt helpless out of fear. He closed his eyes in defeat. Yes, yes! He actually transmigrated over into a novel as the villain who was headed straight for a tragic ending!
Zhan Yu wondered where the plot was at during this timeline.
He asked his brother: "How old am I now?"
Zhan Qiancheng raised a brow and asked seriously this time: "You really don't remember?"
Zhan Yu nodded, but immediately shook his head once again.
His brother asked impatiently: "What do you mean by nodding and shaking your head?"
"I only recall my name and some other vague details. For example, I'm the youngest son of the zhan family. I know this is Shengjin City, and also..." Zhan Yu wanted to share a few other information regarding the villain in the book, but he wasn't sure of his present circumstances and could only do his best to avoid arousing suspicion. So he changed the topic and said, "I only remember these details, but I can't recall the rest."
Zhan Qiangcheng's brows knitted deeply as he considered his words. After pondering about it for a while, he said, "Go to bed first. I'll call the doctor to see you."
"Okay, thanks brother."
Zhan Qiancheng, who was about to turn and leave, suddenly stopped on his tracks and stared back at him doubtfully for two seconds. Finally, he walked out of the room with a disconcerted look.
'Weird, how can falling down the stairs make him act so strange? Since when did my brother treat others so politely? Did his brain really break down this time? He already wasn't very smart in the beginning-if we don't prevent it from degrading any further, who knows what disaster will come!'
At this thought, Zhan Qiancheng's pace quickened.
Upon seeing the man slip away so quickly, Zhan Yu laid back in bed and sighed in his heart. The former Zhan Yu of the novel had such a temper that not even his brother was willing to be close to him.
Although there weren't many descriptions of Zhan Qiancheng in the book, it's not difficult to see that he was a smart and capable person. He was able to run most of the Zhan family's businesses at such a young age, but he was later implicated due to the villains' deeds.
He recalled a scene in the novel, right after the villain had succeeded in plotting Chu Hua's miscarriage. Outside the operating room, Lu Bai, who had always maintained a calm and composed demeanor, now wrapped his fingers around the villains' neck with one had and viciously warned, "If something happens to her, I'll definitely bury your corpse with her!"
He also recalled the author's description: "For the first time, Zhan Yu felt a deep fear from the murderous aura that emanated from Lu Bai's body. It was as if his cold hands could tighten its grasp mercilessly around his throat at any moment, easily taking away his life. He wanted to struggle against him, but did not have even half the strength to resist..."
Finally, Zhan Qiancheng rushed into the hall in a hurry, giving his brother a chance to live.
Zhan Qiancheng walked behind Lu Bai and ordered in a chilling voice: "Lu Bai, you'd better let him go this instant!"
Lu Bai simply replied: "And if I say no?"
"Then I won't let you rest, even if I have to use all of our Zhan family resources!"
Lu Bai sneered and replied without shame: "I'd like to see who it is between us who will have no time of peace!" After that, he pushed the villain away, causing Zhan Yu to hit the wall behind him. His eyes burst into tears as he heard Lu Bai's parting words with a cold warning: "Zhan Yu, just wait, I'll have you pay off your debts!".
Lu Bai threatened him to stay out of his sight. As he sobbed on the floor, Zhan Qiancheng squatted down next to him and lifted him up.
He advised: "I told you before that he's not the man for you. Lu Bai is not the kind of person you can force or keep by your side. Now you finally know right?"
His brother cried so hard that his tears fell like rain. He retorted fiercely: "But what can I do? I just love him!"
Zhan Qiancheng's face darkened and he looked at him silently.
The man isn't interested in you at all even after all you've done to pursue him. He was quite clear in expressing his rejection. In that case, why not let go and just live freely?
The current Zhan Yu also felt some sympathy for Zhan Qiancheng at that time. In fact, there was nothing he could do to convince such a stubborn person.
With these thoughts, Zhan Yu drifted off to sleep.
By the time he woke up again, it was early in the morning.
This time, the person sitting in front of the bed was the villains' beautiful mother.
Zhan Yu considered that since he had transmigrated into the world, he had yet to find a way to return back to his own. There is the saying 'only those who recognize the trends of the times can become outstanding figures.' Perhaps the way for him to return was by letting nature take its course and simply wait for the male and female protagonists to write their happy ending. Whatever happens after that is none of his business. But before the ending, he must reduce his already small sense of existence and not get entangled with them. That way, everything should turn out fine, right?
As for the villains' tragic end at the male protagonist's hands, he believed that this was no longer a problem! Why?
Because he wasn't the real Zhan Yu, and the current him had no feelings for Lu Bai whatsoever!
While he was deep in thought, his mother gave a long sigh.
"Xiao Yu, there are so many good men and woman in the world. Although that Lu kid is exceptional, you are the eldest Son of our Zhan family, meaning there is a long line of excellent men and woman waiting for you in the future. And who knows if your tastes change someday? Let's not pursue this any longer."
Upon hearing this remark, he ( Zhan Yu ) silently thought to himself: 'Wow, with this kind of mother, the villain's really wasn't worthy of his own parents! But maybe it's not so good that she's boasting about his son too much?'
Then the next second, Zhan Yu's thoughts were thrown in turmoil! 'Wait, does that mean the villain's already knows of Lu Bai at this point? So he's already in college?'
"Mom?" Zhan Yu asked weakly: "How old am I right now?"
Mother Zhan gazed at him with incredulity and asked, "Did you really forget everything?"
"I forgot," Zhan Yu nodded.
Well, if his son has forgotten everything, then that must include Lu Bai. Since they will simply meet as strangers in the future, it's all for the best!
With a complicated look on her face, Mother Zhan immediately called for the doctor.
After the doctor examined him, his lines were no different from those in a drama series: "Based on his circumstances, it is presumed that his concussion led to a partial loss of memory."
"What do you mean?" Mother Zhan asked anxiously.
"To put it simply, it's amnesia."
It was Zhan Yu who said this before the doctor could open his mouth.
Left speechless, the physician couldn't help but glance at him.
Meanwhile, faced with the man's unspeakable look, Zhan Yu laughed and said, "Doctor, I'm very much aware of my health."
Mother Zhan, who didn't know what words to say for a while, finally said, "You mean, amnesia?"
The doctor looked at Zhan Yu helplessly and nodded.
Mother Zhan's eyes reddened as she looked at his son's tearless face. Her heart ached for her child.
Zhan Yu mentally rolled his eyes. What was she worried about? It's not like this condition was a terminal disease, plus he didn't actually have amnesia. Actually, he knew way too much when it comes to the plot, but right now, he couldn't name people based on their faces. That's why he still needed to use amnesia as an excuse.
Zhan Yu made up his mind to carry out his 'amnesia' act til the end, so he quietly comforted his mother: "Mom, even though I have amnesia, it's not necessarily a bad thing. I'm still in good health, aren't I? What's better than living in peace and security right now? You can tell me more about the past, and who knows, maybe I'll recall everything after you give me some time. Even if I can't remember, I don't think it's a big issue. So mom, don't be sad, I'm alright."
Mother Zhan's eyes gradually showed a hint of incredulity and horror at his son's words of comfort. Since when did his son comfort her so obediently rather than lash out?
The only way she can calm her mind was by reasoning that perhaps his son has now become sensible after falling down those stairs. Well, it's good that he's safe and healthy, so nothing else should matter.
The confusion on Mother Zhan's face cleared up at once, which caused Zhan Yu to sigh in relief.
'Yes, good. I successfully made it through!' At any rate, even if some unfortunate event was waiting for him in the future, everyone will know now that he lost his memory. That way, they won't pursue his misdeeds to the end...
Zhan Yu spend the next half of the month taking good care of himself. He listened as his 'family' members took turns trying to tell him of his experiences, along with all kinds of important and minor details, day after day.
But out of all the information, there were only two details that Zhan Yu considered useful. One is that his father was Zhan Jin and the other is that her mother was Bai Ning. These things were never mentioned in the novel. When the original author mentioned their suicide, she simply called them "Father Zhan and Mother Zhan."
Out of the past several days he has stayed with them, he truly felt like a son who was doted on by his elders. They sincerely wanted to give him everything he asked for. And although Zhan Qiancheng occasionally showed a bad attitude towards him, his tone layered with impatience, he could still feel the man's love for his only brother. He simply wasn't good at expressing it.
In times when Zhan Yu was alone, he always felt that if he lived this way in the real world, it would surely be the kind of life that everyone envies. His present family's economic standing was superior, and there was family love and harmony. Zhan Yu's current physical health gave him many advantages that he never had in his past life!
Back in his world, he was born in the countryside to a poor family. His mother wasn't in good health while his father was an undisciplined and profligrate man. They quarreled with each other all year round, sometimes so fiercely that no one else could stop them. After Zhan Yu graduated from high school, his parents soon divorced.
He then went on to college and attended part time, and soon after his graduation, he went on to poor primary schools among the mountains to teach. However, Zhan Yu never expected that before he could complete two years of teaching, he suddenly transmigrated into a novel.
In fact, he was still quite confused right now; in the end, was his previous life real, or was his present life the actual real thing? How can such a strange event be possible?
Over time, he convinced himself to accept it. Rather than waking up every morning with a panic-stricken face, checking his surroundings to see whether he has left the novel world and returned back to his own world, it was better to get used to his situation.
In addition, he also learned from his family that he was now at his sophomore year on his second semester.
Zhan Yu knew that the villain originally aimed for a Dance major, but later changed it to the Art Department to chase after Lu Bai. That's because right next to the Art Department was the Construction and Engineering Department which Lu Bai attended.
Two days before going to school, Zhan Yu considered the fact that he personally had no talent for drawing. Was it too late for him to switch departments now? Will he be able to do it?...
To be continued....
