Chapter 9 - Damn Lady Luck

The starry night sky was a wonder for Scar. The more time he spent here, the more questions he had. Apparently, the whole first floor was a small continent surounded by a pitch black sea and anyone who had ever tried to cross it didn't came back. There was only one kingdom in this continent, but it lived under the constant threat. The humans here have been for generations trapped on this floor and the only way to escape it was by ascending to the higher floor.

Unfortunately, just a few people were allowed each year and those were the top 20 absolvent of the Royal Academy. There were other ways, but some too hard to achive or illegal.

Scar spent the remaining two weeks with Sophia, pausing his training to spend more time with her. He grew quiet fond with her and was reluctant about her leaving. He knew that he could get into the Academy if he showed his powers, but he could also be treated like a monster.

His new plan about the future was to understand more about this floor and grow stronger for the next two years, and then join the Royal Academy two years earlier.

So right after Sophia took of, he gave her grandpa the money he had worked for in the past months as thanks and left on his own.

When he entered the Adventure Guild, everyone became silent. There were rumors about him slaying a lesser dragon and the one who spread those rumors is no one other than Sophia. She found the skeleton lying next to Scar when he woke up , so when she met with her friends she accidentaly said something about it.

Of course Scar knew about it and everytime someone looked at him with those eyes he swore to his past self for being reckless.

"How can I help you?"a bored man asked behind the counter.

"Hello, I am searching for a group to travel with to Skegen."

"You are in luck boy, my name is Dovik. We just came to ask the same thing."a rough voice was heard from behind. The man that spoke looked like a certified adventurer. He had a kaki uniform and a big backpack, but his black beard gave of wild vibes. Behind him ,Scar could see a short woman with dark green hair and another man that stood at a towering 1.90 stature and wore a grey hood.

'Finally, some luck. I thought that I would wait at least a day for someone to be available.'inwardly grinned .

"When will we be departing?"actually said Scar, while keeping his inpecable poker face.

"The faster, the better."the woman said.

The first part of the journey went smoothly and the scenery was very different from Earth. There was lush green everywhere. The forest was brimming with life, but a cold shudder went down his spine.

The feeling of being watched followed him the whole journey until they settled at a small inn. They bought a big room for the whole group, wich Scar found unpleasant. After experiencing how a homeless lives, he found it really hard to sleep next to people.

'Isaac, you forgot about me? How could you!'a blury figure of a girl told him smilling. Scar found himself tied with chains on a bed. When he tried to escape he could only move them a tiny bit. The girl crawled to his chest and started playing with his hair. He would have found that erotic in normal circumstances, but now her cold hands seemed like knifes slidding down his throat. Her face became clear to him for a second and he felt the marble in his body turning white from fury. The black completly disappeared and the white glow engulfed Scar.

He woke up in shock and relaxed when he found out it was all a dream. A few seconds later he forgot every detail execpt the dangerous girl.

A scream from outside completly woke him up. He went to the window and saw that everything was burning and between the flames there were some etheral creatures. Dovik's group was nowhere to be seen and the worst of all, everything he had disapeared again. The moment when he was tricked by Sophia's group came back to his mind. His body was turning a pale grey and his eyes bloodshot.

"Damn Lady Luck, why do my things keep getting stolen!"he yelled in outrage
