The sterile scent of antiseptics clung to the back of Muchen's throat.
The faint beeping of monitors and the shuffle of footsteps echoed through the room.
"I'm... pregnant?" The words fell from his lips. He blinked, his gaze drifting from the doctor's calm expression to the glaring fluorescent lights above.
The corners of Muchen's lips lifted in disbelief. "Is this live? Did you put Shao up to this?" He glanced at his friend, who stood stiffly at the foot of the bed, his face unreadable. "This isn't funny."
The doctor's brows furrowed, his voice steady. "Sir, this is not a prank."
Groaning softly, Muchen sat up, wincing at the tug of countless wires attached to his arms. His fingers fumbled with one of the tubes. "This must be fake too... Haha, very funny."
Without thinking, he yanked the IV out.
A stinging pain shot through his hand as a bead of blood welled up at the site. The coppery scent hit his nose, sharp and real.
