Muchen's heart pounded in his chest as he threw on his jacket, his movements frantic. He couldn't waste a second—Yunfeng was in s city and he needed to get there as fast as possible.
Shāo, who had been quietly observing Muchen's disarray, approached him slowly. His eyes softened, but his voice was firm. "Muchen, calm down."
"You calm down!" Muchen snapped, slamming the door as he rushed out of the house. "im taking your car."
Shāo followed him, his face lined with worry. "Muchen…please just stop and calm yourself. "
Muchen didn't answer. He was already in the car, starting the engine with a harsh turn of the key. The engine roared to life, but inside, Muchen's thoughts were far from calm.
He needed answers now!
Shāo slid into the passenger seat, trying to steady his own racing pulse.
He glanced over at Muchen, whose knuckles were white as he gripped the steering wheel.
"You okay?" Shāo asked, his voice quiet, trying to mask the concern that was starting to show.
"I'm fine," Muchen muttered, but his words lacked conviction. He didn't feel fine—he felt like his heart was about to explode out of his chest.
His head ached, and dizziness swam through his vision.
"You sure about that?" Shāo pressed, leaning closer to him.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Muchen repeated
He took a shaky breath, his hands trembling as he guided the car forward.
But then, just as the car hit the main road, a wave of dizziness hit him like a tidal wave.
His vision blurred, and he gripped the wheel harder, trying to steady himself.
Shāo noticed immediately. "Muchen—!"
"I said I'm fine!" Muchen snapped, blinking hard as he tried to clear the fog in his mind. His pulse raced faster, and he could barely focus on the road ahead.
But the streets ahead weren't helping. The road was completely jammed, and there seemed to be no reason for it. The vehicles barely moved, creating a solid wall of frustration. Muchen leaned on the horn, but it was useless.
"Why is this happening?" Muchen growled. "It's not even rush hour!"
Shāo stared out the window, his brow furrowing as he scanned the traffic. "Something's not right. Why are all these people taking this road?"
Frustration clouded Muchen's mind, his body tense with urgency. "I can't wait like this," he muttered through gritted teeth. His hands clenched the wheel as he jerked the car to the left, seeking an alternate route.
"Muchen, stop! You're going too fast!!" Shāo shouted, his voice rising in panic.
But Muchen ignored him. The need to find Yunfeng overwhelmed everything else.
He swerved down a side street, pushing the car harder, faster.
The alleyways were narrower, and the turns tighter, but Muchen didn't care. He had to go faster.
"What are you doing?!" Shāo's voice cracked, his hands gripping the seatbelt so hard his knuckles turned white. "You're out of control!"
"I need to get to him fast!" Muchen snarled. His breath came in shallow gasps as he sped through the narrow streets. The tires screeched, the car fishtailing as it took a sharp turn.
He didn't look at Shāo, didn't hear his pleas. His mind was solely focused on one thing—getting to Yunfeng.
Shāo's face was pale as he pressed himself back into the seat, eyes wide. "Slow down!"
But Muchen couldn't hear him anymore. His vision was blurring again, his hands unsteady.
As they rounded another corner, the world seemed to slow down.
A middle-aged man suddenly appeared, running full-speed across the street, oblivious to the oncoming car.
"STOP!" Shoa screamed.
Muchen's heart skipped a beat, his foot slamming the brakes in a panic.
The tires screamed in protest as they locked up, but it was too late.
The car slid, its momentum pushing it uncontrollably toward the man.
Muchen's breath caught in his throat as he tried to steer the car out of the way, but it wasn't enough.
The car slammed into the man's side with a sickening thud, the impact jolting Muchen and Shāo violently against their seats.
The car spun wildly, tires screeching in protest, before it finally collided with a lamppost.
Everything happened in an instant—the airbag exploded in Muchen's face, slamming against his chest with such force that it took his breath away.
The world around him tilted, spinning, before it all went dark.
