It's been nearly a year since Miyuki and Yoshito started dating and we're now in our fourth year of university. Their relationship has developed well so far, of course they have had their fair share of arguments but that's only natural, they would end up resolving them quickly. Eri and I are still going on with our "relationship," not that I'm complaining about it. We have been spending more time together, and I really enjoy it, I just hope she feels the same way
I still apologize for requesting that favor, but she always reassures me and tells me that I don't have to, I can't help it because I feel like I've been taking advantage of her kindness.
"You know you could always depend on me, right?" Is what Eri would often tell me, maybe as a form of reassurance.
We're close to graduating and I've received offers from companies different from the one that I worked at in the past. Eri started working, Miyuki now left the café and is working somewhere else, and Yoshito is still deciding where he'd like to work since he hasn't received any job offers. A couple of weeks have passed since all of us hung out, and Yoshito hasn't contacted me which is odd since he often calls. Eri also mentioned that Miyuki has been acting strange lately, and she can't seem to explain why.
It's worrying, I should go visit them.
"Hey Yasuhito." Eri softly spoke as I stood outside of her apartment.
She led me to her room and we sat on her bed.
"How's Miyuki doing?" Eri looked troubled as I asked.
"Not good, come on." She got up from the bed and gestured to me to follow her.
"I don't think you'll be lucky enough for her to answer." Eri looked a bit worried as she knocked on the door to Miyuki's room.
"Miyuki, Yasuhito's here, could you please come out and say hi?" Eri spoke up.
"Hey, Miyuki, what's wrong? Could you please open the door?" I grabbed the doorknob.
"Sorry…I don't want to see anyone right now." A silent, but defeated voice was heard from the other side.
This voice reminds me of the time she apologized when we found out that we couldn't have a baby.
"Miyuki, come on, could you please come out and talk to us, please, tell us what's wrong." I now held a tight grip on the doorknob, getting a bit emotional.
"Yasuhito…" Eri softly hugged me from behind.
"Please Miyuki, it's not good to shut yourself in when you're going through something, you can talk to us, maybe we'll be able to help out, could you please open the door?" I could feel my eyes getting watery.
"Yasuhito…I think that's enough." Eri now held onto me tightly, sobbing, attempting to pull me away from the door.
"I'm sorry I was always so helpless…I wish I could've done better, made better decisions, I should've talked to you more when you needed it, I was just so scared when I saw you heartbroken…I wasn't sure on what I could've done..I'm sorry." My grip on the doorknob began to loosen and the door opened slowly.
"Why are you apologizing?" A frail looking Miyuki opened the door.
All of us decided to go to the living room to talk.
"What's wrong Miyuki?" I asked as she held her head down.
"Does it have to do with Yoshito?" Eri asked.
"No…it doesn't." Miyuki softly spoke.
"Are you sure?" I asked calmly and she nodded.
"If you can't tell us, then we understand, but we'd really like to know and perhaps help you if we can." Eri began to caress Miyuki's back and she looked back up.
"I'm…pregnant." Miyuki spoke without emotion.
