Chapter 13 - The Oracle of Goltan - Part 13

I was given a new life.

"My mother was a young beautiful woman with bright blonde hair and ruby red eyes, my father was equally handsome and wore his shoulder-length white hair loose, his eyes shining in a magnificent blue. And I had purple eyes.

I grew up in a huge mansion, and during that time, the system had sealed my memory until I was six years old. Then my memory awakened.

[Bjarne, wake up!]

"Mhmm...." I grumbled, rubbing my eyes. "Where am I?"

[Good morning, Bjarne. You are in your father's studio.]

I looked around with my child eyes and saw some workbenches, some stuff in containers with liquids and other things, and torches hanging on the walls, along with beautiful framed pictures of my father and pictures of the family and our ancestors.

"What is all this for?" I asked the system as I looked around, finally noticing a shelf full of books to the left of the large double doors.

[This is for the study of magic.]

"Magic?" I asked, pointing to the bookshelf with my fingers. "Can I learn magic with those books?"

My mother's voice was heard from outside the door: "Bjarne, come eat."

[No, you don't need those books for that. I can help you learn magic.]

"I'll be right there, Mom," I called out to my mother, and then in a quieter tone, I spoke to the system, "How?"

My mother came in, followed by my father, who had put on his friendliest smile. It was a great sight."

Together we went to the dining room.

The servants had prepared a veritable feast. There were fruits, meats, fish, soups, desserts, and all sorts of curiosities. Of course, not all at once. Typically, a simple meal consisted of the following order: a curiosity as an appetizer, a soup or stew as a stomach-settler. Then a plate of fruits, vegetables, and cheese with bread to shorten the waiting time for the main course. Then there was either a dish with meat or fish, sometimes both, but I didn't like it when this combination occurred. Lastly, there was always a dessert that harmonized wonderfully if eaten at the same time as the dishes before it. I know this because I did it secretly at the age of about four. Now I understand that my parents let me try it out.

During dessert - by the way, there was Bapful cake - my parents suddenly looked at me with concern.

"My son," my father began the conversation. "You turned five today. It's time to go to the temple and learn your destiny from the priests."

I shoved a huge piece of Bapful cake into my mouth and replied with a full mouth, "Okay, Papa. - What is it?"

Suddenly, my mother looked amused and replied to me in a friendly tone of voice, "Bjarne, you know, we told you about it. The servants will dress you for the ceremony after dinner, and the carriage is waiting for us outside, right?"

And so it happened. After the servants dressed me in my ceremonial robes in red and silver, they took me to the carriage and helped me get in. Mom and Dad were already waiting in the carriage.

There's nothing special to say about the ride. About half a day's march later, we arrived at the temple.

Arriving in the temple hall, the priests and high priest were already waiting for me. In the center of the room stood a majestic-looking obelisk with a symbol inscribed on it, which I can only describe roughly as follows: a circle with a horizontal line above it, with a third-sized line protruding upward from the middle of the horizontal line, and a vertical line to the right of the circle and horizontal line with a quarter-sized line in the middle pointing to the right. The symbol was repeated twice side by side.

"What do these runes mean?" I asked the system in my mind.

[You don't want to know. Trust me.]

I wanted to know, but the high priest proclaimed his words to me: "Dear child of the Yhrvndr house, now place your hands on the stone with the blessings of our gods. Then a voice will tell us all what your fate is!"

The obelisk was cool and yet pleasantly warm. I closed my eyes and suddenly I even heard the said voice, like everyone else in the temple hall:

"Bjarne Yhrvndr. You possess the powers of jumping, recognition, acquisition, and manipulation. But your soul is not whole. Your heart is heavy with sorrow in the future that I see, yet you will accomplish great things. Now go forth: Potassium Warrior. The power I give you will be: Forgiveness. Forgiveness can wash away any guilt, but not your own, so live a righteous life and find the oracle!"

The last words were only heard in my head.

As it became silent, I opened my eyes and looked down at myself. My whole body was glowing in purple splendor, and the light radiated in all directions away from my body and curved back towards my heart, where the light centered.

Although it all sounded spectacular, judging from the stone faces of the priests and the smile of the high priest and my parents, everything had gone according to standard and normal.

As my parents and I left, one of the priests gave me an emblem, which my father then took and kept for me. The emblem had the symbol for time on it, which could also be interpreted as Potassium Warrior.

Sitting in the carriage, I wanted to ask my father a question. No, I wanted to ask my father in the carriage, but I fell asleep.

And so the journey passed, and the next morning I woke up in my bed.

"Did you sleep well?" my mother in her morning gown sat by my bed, inquiring about the quality of my rest during the night.

"Yes, Mom."

[Yes, Mom - lol]

With a hand gesture, I dismissed the system window.

"You, Mom?"

"Yes, my child?"

"What is a Potassium Warrior?"

"A Potassium Warrior is someone who guards time. Someone who can remember everything when they need to, and forget when they must. A Kalium Warrior is one of the nine destinies presented to one."

"What are the other destinies?"

"Bjarne...I don't want to talk about it."

"Why not, Mom?" I raged inside because I was so curious, but my mother couldn't be persuaded. Instead, she hugged me and calmed me down.

"And now you know where the symbol on my robe comes from, Quincy," Adán finished his story. From outside the prison cell, they could hear the guard softly sobbing - such a touching story. But the atmosphere for Quincy and Adán was not quite as pleasant, perhaps due to the smell of urine and feces.

"So, are you sure you're not just making this up, Adán - or should I call you Bjarne now?" Quincy questioned the storyteller calmly. Adán sighed and replied to the skeptic's remark: "Just open your system."

So Quincy tried to open his system, but he had forgotten how to do it.

"How do I open the system?"

"Just say 'System' or 'Status'."

"Oh, okay. System!"

[Quest completed!]

[Reward: System access.]

[New Quest: Find the Oracle.]

[Difficulty: Easy]

[Reward: Map to the Mana source 'Potassia']

[Punishment for failure: ???]

In contrast to earlier, Quincy's system window was suddenly white and black light glowed along the edges of the system window. Suddenly, a sound rang out.

CLANG CLANG CLANG-CLANG CLANG

Then, the guard and his followers came closer to the cell and with a broad grin he spoke to his prisoners:

"What a touching story, but no power in the world will be able to help you escape from here! Hahahahaha!"

Then he went back to his very sturdy chair, which then crashed to the ground. With a thump, he fell to the floor, looked around angrily, stood up, and brushed the dirt off his pants.

Then, controlling his anger, he shouted into the cell: "YOU WILL BE EXECUTED TOMORROW!"
