Chapter 9 - Another Saint

Now, though Alejandro and his wife managed to get him home without anyone seeing and realizing, the people of the land still somehow found out that he was not in the parish, they had visited several times to see if they can see him as the priest had promised but the got no good response until someone sported him at his home with his wife.

In no time the news got to the people that the Saint had returned to his home so they tailed him back to his place. I'm no time they thronged at their place, singing and chanting songs of praises calling on Alejandro to come and bless them.

"Saint Alejandro, did you see my husband in heaven? Did you find him with Our saviour?" a lady asked from the crowd. Many of them asked silly questions.

Listening to all these, Alejandro felt so terrified that he curled himself behind the door, acting like one scared child while his wife Cecilia came out to shoo the crowd away.

*what do you all want? My husband is not a saint, he is still sick, please you all should allow him to recover. You all made the doctor discharge him even before he regained his memory, now because of your madness I am living with a man who does not remember me or my daughter, please I beg all of you, go away, go and leave my husband be, we do not want your trouble, allow us to be. Please." she said with tears running down her face, she was so unhappy, she looked worn out, and all the stress and her husband not knowing who she was made her sick, she wished there was something she could do to help the matter, but her hands were tied not even the doctor, not the priest knew anything about his situation. As she was there crying, she notice that the crowd who was earlier making a hell of a noise suddenly kept calm, they were calm and peaceful, and she noticed that they began to make an open passway from their middle, and also looked backwards. At first, she felt that it was her cry that touched the hearts of the crowd, but no, she only found out that they were only parting ways because they just noticed the presence of the priest. She felt this touch of relief when she saw the priest coming through the little passway made by the crowd, she was certain that their day had been saved. The priest without saying any word to the people walked to Cecilia, held her by the hands and dragged her into her home as she planted her eyes in his.

"My daughter, we will have to take your husband to the parish house, and from there we will look for a place where he will stay, a place where no one will suspect, someone trusted by the church, he will remain there until the church finds out what to do about his case. I have spoken and have sent messages to the bishop concerning his issue, and the bishop is ready to take on his case, it is a very unique and vital issue to the church now, do not worry my daughter, we will help you and your husband, but before then we will have to know what happened, or what is happening." the priest said and Alejandro dived into the discussion.

*Padre, I know the cause of my predicament, it was Gaitana who did this to me, she cursed me into this flesh, and I know that she knows how to undo what she did." Alejandro said to him and the priest looked at him and turned back to his wife, he looked at him like he was one bag of trouble.

"Alejandro my son, you will have to follow me now."

"Priest, I am A Chief Charles, and I am not your son, I am far older than you, but I will go with you regardless, your place will be better than this shit hole, he said to him. When he called their house a shit hole, his wife Cecilia felt pained, she looked at him, and tears ran down her eyes, she never said a word after that, but her mood said everything she needed to say.

In the parish, Father Taye already had Alejandro to relax in one of his quarters, a place that he saw as not comfortable enough, but better than the farm woman's house.

Padre Taye had called on a meeting in his home, he called his most trusted church member into his study room and they discussed Alejandro, they were to discuss what to do about the Alejandro issue, and they decided that he will have to stay in the home of one of them, but there was a problem, no one was willing to accept him to their home, they all came up with one excuses or the other, many said that their home was not conducive because of their kids at home, so, after all, had made excuses, they all turned to Sister Jessica pointing to her to take him in.

Sister Jessica, though she was never married, she was still not a reverend sister, she was a lady who claimed to devote her life to Christ, she claimed she had known no man and will know no man till she die. So she was the perfect person to keep him since she had no one living with her and her home was big enough with enough room, and she was the last person that anyone could suspect that a man will be in her home. She tried to resist, but all the people and not excluding the priest pleaded with her to help.

"it is not going to take time, we are to have him in your house till the bishop comes or sends anyone for him. Trust me, it won't take that much of a time." The Priest said to her. And she was left with no other option but to say yes.

They managed to smuggle him through the back door like a hard drug to the nice lady's car.

"And please, get him a blade to shave that hair off his face." The priest said. And they all left.

The priest went back to the sitting room to meet Mrs Cecilia where she sat looking so confused like some lost soul, the priest had compassion for her when he saw her condition, he understood her pain, and he knew that she must be in serious pain.

"My dear daughter, you may now go, your husband is in a safe hand now, he will be there and no one will have to disturb him because they won't find out where he is. Do not worry, the bishop will come and get him, take him to the place where he will get treatment and he will regain himself and come back home to you and your daughter." The priest explained to her in the most plight manner. And she understood, but with tears in her eyes, she stood up and thanked the prices, she smiled and wished him well as she turned her back to walk out of the sitting room. On her way out, she met the crowd who she looked at with so much disgust, she played them with her heart, and wished they will disappear from the face of the earth, she blamed them for her husband's situation, according to her, it was because of them that her husband was almost buried alive, she believed that he wasn't dead when they claimed he was dead, and she also blamed them for being the reason why the doctors had to discharge him before he recovered from his mental issue.
