Chapter 1 - Prologue

Kyle and his squad were sitting around a campfire in the middle of a forest resting before going back to complete their assigned mission.

"Cap, do you think this is gonna be over soon?" a blond man asked.

"Haha, we've been in this forest for over a month and we still couldn't launch a successful attack at their base. It looks like those motherfuckers are playing with us." Kyle answered.

He was a 6-foot-tall black-haired man, his face was covered with scars and it was even possible to see what looked like a scar from an animal. He had a lean body with broad shoulders, his physique was the peak form someone from his job could have.

"But don't get your hopes down, they haven't found us yet. With a little more time we should be able to go home" Kyle said.

'It is really weird that we attacked them a lot of times and they still haven't tried anything against us'

"Stop raising death flags, man, I got a wife to go back" another man spoke.

"Cap, have you ever doubted if what we do has really an effect on the planet?" a bald short man said, "I mean, every time we kill one of them, another two appear in the place, it looks like we are fighting against a hydra. No matter how many missions we do, the world doesn't look better, it just looks worse".

You could see the expressions of every one of them stiffening. They all enrolled in the special forces with the goal of making the world a safer place by taking out the trash that corrupts society. However, no matter how hard they tried, it didn't look safer or better.

"I think about it every single day of my life, but I don't let it get into my head. After all, if we don't cut one of their heads, there will be 3 in there, right?"

After wasting some time at the campfire, they went back to the tent to sleep for some hours before starting to move around again.

Then, 30 minutes later a sound was heard.

BOOM

"WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT"

"GET OUT! GET OUT! WE ARE BEING ATTACKED"

"OH FUCK SHOOT BACK AT THOSE MOTHERFUCKERS"

"HAHHAHAHA COME HERE YOU BITCHES"

Kyle got covered behind a tree nearby, which by the state it was in it wouldn't endure much time. The tree was getting shot so many times that looked like the enemy knew where they were, but that was impossible, the forest was pure dark, and Kyle couldn't even see a single enemy amidst all the gunshots happening so how could they be able to pinpoint his exact location?

'This shit isn't normal, we analyzed them, they aren't wealthy enough to afford night vision devices. Maybe, they are getting backed up by another organization?'

Anyone would be able to see how anxious he looked at the moment, his mind was spinning trying to find the answers to how all that happened, but that wasn't the time for getting distracted because right at the time Kyle heard a sound that made his already bad situation turn into a nightmare.

A roar of a helicopter.

'How do they have a helicopter to help them? It doesn't make fucking sense..'

"RETREAT NOW" Kyle screamed on the radio.

As soon as the enemies stopped shooting at him to reload, Kyle threw a grenade at them and started running back to the deepest part of the forest. However, before he could go far, he saw his squad unable to do anything. The enemies that were focused on him now were shooting at his comrades.

'FUCK, this way we are all gonna die.'

"Marcus, when they stop shooting, I will shoot th-"

Before Kyle could finish his words, the gunshots paused for a brief moment.

"Now, RUN"

Kyle started unloading all his magazines at them. Just so he could buy some time for his squad to run. Fortunately, it was enough for Marcus to get cover and start helping the others. However, the situation was still tight, the enemies were too many and they didn't have enough time to run them off.

Kyle reunited with his squad and they got a cover, enough to give them a little time to think about how to proceed with the situation.

"I ran out of ammo, I only have 1 grenade left"

"Me too"

"Yeah, me too"

"Fuck, this is the end?"

"Hell, how did they even find us? And what's with all that fucking weaponry? A helicopter? IMPOSSIBLE. There was nothing mentioning it in the report they gave us. They were supposed to be small fries, the only problem was the fortress which should be hard to invade. What should we do now cap?"

They waited for the answer anxiously and with determination in their eyes. Because, right now, they all already knew there was no other way out.

Meanwhile, Kyle seemed to have decided something.

"I want you all to give all the ammo and grenades you have to me, I am buying some time for you to run" Kyle expressed.

"What? Cap, we are al-"

"No buts. That is an order, as the leader, I should buy time for you, I may even be able to survive since I'm built different"

"If everything goes well I am going to Vallhala, if everything goes down I will be waiting for every one of you in hell so we can kill the Devil" He joked.

Kyle was not afraid to die, he saw death as something as natural as living. Besides, he would finally get some rest after all the time on the battlefield. That didn't mean he wasn't worried, he didn't know if his death would be in vain, what if they can't escape?

The rest of the squad knew there was nothing to say that may change his mind right now and time is running out. Though they didn't express their emotions openly, they all considered themselves a big family. You might not see tears coming out from them, but their hearts were in pieces.

"When I count to one, I want you all to run like a little girl separated from her parents"

"3"

"2"

"Until the other side"

"1"

"NOW"

At that moment, they started to run as fast as possible while Kyle threw grenades at the enemies.

BOOM

When they exploded, he started shooting without holding back, he could not see where the enemies were, but it didn't matter, his objective was only one: gain time.

After five minutes of shooting and reloading, he ran out of ammo. There was only one thing he could do now and that was to run.

Unfortunately, he was not able to gain much time because 5 seconds after he started to run he was shot more than 10 times.

Everyone says that when you are dying, you see the movie of your life passing by your eyes. But the only thing could sense was pain.

'Fuck, these motherfuckers even hit my little guy."

When his vision started to fade away, a light was appearing in his vision. The so long awaited rest, he didn't have to suffer anymore, to worry anymore, to feel pain, all he would do is rest now.

'Finally, I really needed a break huh? Hopefully, the afterlife is filled with good food and beautiful women, since I was too busy I died a virgin damn why am I fucking about that? I am going to paradise right now, I should only think about the good things that are to come.'

Little did Kyle know he couldn't be more wrong.
