Chapter 44 - Chapter 44

A day after the events of the Gremory Betrothal Battle as it was occasionally called, another shocking discovery was made. Moris Naberius, one of the greatest scientists to ever live, had attacked the Thaumiel clan for an undisclosed reason.

In the following hour, the vast majority of the Naberius estate was destroyed, Alastor and Astro Thaumiel were killed, and the newly famous Mad Dog killed Moris as well. After that came the public announcement from the Satans that the Naberius clan was excommunicated.

At first, the world was confused, it was a heinous crime yes however to just completely remove one of the 72 Pillars was like discarding away the former Lucifer's legacy. However, once the witness reports began piling in it was no longer a doubted statement.

Reports of torture, reports of murder, and much more had flooded in instantly once people began digging. It wasn't like they were present either, each and everyone said they had seen a pink flash and they were gone.

Regardless, it was quickly accepted and the world moved on. A funeral was prepared, hosted by the remnants of the Thaumiel clan although it was very small in nature. The roster was limited to five people, two of whom were Satans.

There was a buzz in the Gremory estate as Rias Gremory tried all she could to help Damian however she was refused each time. In the end, the two who had been so close were pushed apart. Even during their engagement ceremony they hardly looked at each other.

There had been rumors of the Gremory heir allowing the two girls who had seen Damian in the Naberius estate to meet him and thank him but ultimately they were unknown. Either way, it wasn't something most of the devils were interested in.

Yet, as time passed the Mad Dog and his love life were abandoned as points of interest. In five years, the fame of the last Thaumiel had faded away. At least, his fame had died l for a brief moment.

As if he was waiting for his chance to strike, the Mad Dog had struck dozens of places simultaneously. While his fame had once been born solely of his power alone, he reshaped his image with his cunning.

He revealed his peerage filled with people who could only be called legends in the making, or even legends already. A descendant of the original Leviathan, the Emperor of Roses, the newly crowned Blue Dragon Emperor, the Spear Saint, the Technique God, the owner of the Holy Chalice, the Divine Thief, and the owner of an undiscovered Longinus.

With their help, he rapidly grew in both power and prestige. While it would be a stretch to claim that the Thaumiel clan rivaled something like the Phenex clan, it surpassed most of the pillars with ease.

It was astounding, revolting, and awe inspiring. The way a low ranking noble reached the level where it could even be compared to one of the strongest powers was thought to be impossible, and to the pillars, it should have stayed that way.

Their influence had been diminished by the overwhelming growth of the Thaumiel clan and they didn't like that. Their sandcastle which had lasted for hundreds of years was crumbling down because of what they thought was another small wave that turned out to be a tsunami.

On the other hand, the reincarnated devils loved Damian. While his start was different from theirs it was undoubtable that he had gone from a far worse ranking to standing high above the majority of the remaining pillars.

His start had been different, he was a noble from the start and he had the teaching of two Satans, however, they didn't care who accomplished it what mattered was that somebody managed to do it at all. It gave them hope to accomplish the same.

Of course, he wasn't the only one to rise into prominence in five years. As if taking after the Mad Dog, Sairaorg had cemented his position as one of the strongest of the new generation by defeating Riser who was his natural enemy.

Seekvaira had shown herself to be capable of feats of engineers beyond any other child. She was rumored to have been supported by Ajuka Beelzebub himself albeit the reason for that was unknown. Many said it was his gift to her from so many years ago but there was no way to be sure.

Sona had shown herself to be a strategist equal to the Mad Dog through various means, the most famous of which was when she acted as the strategist for a rating game. It was between two individuals from the Purson clan who were fighting for the position of heir. The younger of the two was much weaker than the other and had half the pieces yet still won under her control.

Diodora had made a name for himself with his petty nature and bad habit of stealing nuns for his own amusement. Luckily, the Mad Dog had managed to reveal his crimes and now he was locked within one of the Astaroth clan's vacation homes, sealed away for centuries.

Riser had entered the Rating Game scene and had made a new name for himself as the vengeance driven phoenix. Most would agree that his personality had gotten worse as his reputation was damaged and he was repeatedly defeated by those younger than him but he had finally begun training so the Phenex clan had been treating it as a good thing.

However, the most impressive bar the Mad Dog was the Crimson Princess of Ruin. With a quickly growing peerage and the tutoring of two of the strongest devils, they were growing at immense speeds.

Her peerage was odd, filled to the brim with misfits, yet they had all grown so powerful that their origins didn't even matter. She had received the most talented Yokai perhaps ever, a vampire with a new time related Longinus, the daughter of Baraqiel, and the descendant of King Arthur on her side.

Unlike Damian however, her peerage was unfinished. She still lacked a bishop, rook, knight, and all eight of her pawns. While her peerage lacked the prestige of the Mad Dog's own they had the talent to reach them. That is why the devils have been asking themselves…

Is too much power within the hands of two clans?
