Chapter 119 - Chapter 119

Three snow white tails shot out from her back, cat ears adorned her head, and touki thick enough to constrict vision spread all throughout the battlefield. It was Shirone's Nekomata Level 3 mode and also her strongest mode as of now.

"Haha! How impressive!" Cackling loudly even as his body spun around like a top Prometheus' large body would effortlessly disperse most naturally formed mist. This however was far from natural, or rather it was too natural.

"Are you crazy?" Those cruel words seemed almost kind when accompanied by Shirone's kind but empty voice. However, her words weren't far off the mark though not for the reason she wanted to hear.

"All of us are crazy!" Prometheus declared with a bark of a laugh, his body blurring toward the shadow that appeared in the mist. Smashing into the defensive magic Prometheus' body was lit ablaze, the flames burning hot enough to melt the very magic constricting him.

"He's likely under the effect of some kind of contract. A forceful one I would assume." The reliable Rossweisse, former guardian of Odin, declared quickly. It took no time at all to reach the correct conclusion, an impressive feat to be sure.

"How pitiful…" Murmuring sadly from within the mist Asia didn't even try to move when Prometheus spun like a top and ran directly for her. The mist was effective at hiding them so not only was he not going the right way but he was even approaching a trap if it could be called that.

Striking where he believed her to be his fist sunk deep into the quagmire created for him alone while both Shirone and Rossweisse appeared behind him. Purifying flames of the yokai surrounded the hell cat as she grappled his chest, his arms held close to his chest, and trapped him in place.

"Bird!" Prometheus' warning was accompanied by the same laughter as always, a shadow piercing the mist and crashing into the hell cat's back while Rossweisse's magic harmlessly missed the creature.

Ripping off a large chunk of Shirone's flesh the bird flew off, a groan of pain leaving Shirone's lips as she desperately tried to retain her grasp on Prometheus. Not only was her back a storm of pain but the flames of Prometheus were winning over her own.

Keeping her calm to the best of her abilities Rossweisse moved forward, a magical barrier surrounding her skin like a skinsuit while Asia healed all of Shirone's growing wounds. It was patchwork at best but it was enough for now.

Creating a blade of magic Rossweisse attempted to sever the titan's ligaments to restrict his movements. Her blade moved quickly and showed considerable prowess but it was all for naught as he swung his legs up and relied fully on Shirone to hold him upright.

Leaning back in surprise Shirone quickly changed intentions, her fall expedited as she clutched the flaming titan with all the force she could muster. The earth beneath them became mud, drowning them in its depths as they fell further and further.

Their descent only stopped when Prometheus was left with only his large head sticking out of the earth. Rising from the earth at his side was a muddy but otherwise undamaged Shirone whose wounds had all been closed already.

"What a wonderful prison! I can hardly feel my toes!" Giggling like a school girl Prometheus wore a wide grin as his body thrashed against his prisons. However, now that they had the time to properly observe, it was clear that he wasn't trying his best.

His body was on autopilot, its only command being to kill all the intruders. Hades couldn't trust somebody like Prometheus so he made sure there was no doubt that the titan would follow along. But, that didn't mean Prometheus couldn't fight back.

He couldn't stop himself from battling them nor could he stop that damn bird from devouring their flesh however he could give them guidance and hold himself back. In the end, that was more than enough.

"Why are you assisting us?" It was Rossweisse who pushed for answers, Asia too busy healing the injured Shirone and the latter busy enhancing the quagmire. Even if Prometheus was a kind man he wouldn't risk permanent injury by fighting against his contract.

"Are you curious? About why a solitary god like Hades would desire world domination?" Instead of answering the question, Prometheus turned the situation on its head with an eager yet solemn glint in his eyes.

Hades was always a cruel god. He despised other species and pantheons for their foolish, cruel, or idiotic actions. However, he wasn't evil. Despite his dislike of them, he would never turn them away should they find them in his domain nor would he discriminate against those alive.

That was why it was so odd for him to be desiring such a future. He was one of the many gods content with living a life of perpetuity, a life where nothing changes and he would follow the flow of fate. That was until a few months ago at least.

"Does it matter? Hades is threatening our world, there isn't any point in listening to the beliefs of a dictator." The cold voice of Shirone was filled with venom as images of the man from so many years ago resurfaced in her mind. They were very different people they were too similar.

"It does matter. It matters because this is a cycle, a cycle of benevolence. It befalls all those who feel love more than anyone else. It matters because Damian Thaumiel may fall prey to it one day." Prometheus' tone was deathly serious, his words inciting a tense silence.

If it was Damian in this position and not Hades… the world may as well be conquered. Already Hades was a great threat however to have the strongest being alive as your enemy was an impossible challenge. If that future came to pass…

"Will you listen to a story? The story of Celeste, the daughter of Hades."
