The night wasn't too bad since it was still the beginning of the winter season until a long cold breeze hit the girl's face making her shiver at the contact. But nothing tonight would stop her from following the golden eyes that somewhat enticed her whole being. Although she had a long string of emotions overcoming her, she felt like maybe the golden eyes could somehow provide her comfort.
She walked confidently and almost never blinked watching the creature stay in the same position almost tempting the beauty to continue. All her life, Sophia was taught that the Wolfmen were a dangerous breed, yet why did she feel safe? Here she was, a little rabbit making its way to the eyes of a predator.
Eventually the golden eyes started to distance themself from the girl going deeper into the trees only making Sophia walk faster not wanting to miss a chance at meeting the strange creature who she first saw the night of the picking. The girl didn't notice at first, but her legs started to pace at a running speed as she held her dress not wanting to lose the moment.
Her breathing became harsh as she entered the woods looking to her right and left wondering where the creature ventured off to. But the girl didn't lose her confidence as she started to run into a direction she felt he may have escaped. Not paying much attention, Sophia was in a part of the woods she didn't recognize and she knew she would not be able to navigate out of it.
"Hello?" She whispered into the darkness looking at the bushes and trees nearby. "Is someone there?"
Sophia kept quiet hearing the crickets, but she started to feel silly that a Wolfman might actually speak to her so openly without killing her on the spot. But she stayed still waiting and waiting…..but no answer came making her heart ache.
Sighing in disapoinntment, Sophia turned ready to head out of the forest.
"Haven't you been told that once you enter our lands, we can kill you instantly little girl?" Came a dark voice that made Sophia's heart skip. Somehow she sensed danger in his deep baritone voice but their was also an alluring combination tied together when she heard it. Her body was reacting in a way she never experienced almost wanting to hear him speak more. And it helped take away the pain that was slowly returning since she could remember her mother's lifeless body in her arms.
Her body froze almost instantly realizing the creature was extremely close and he wasn't a friendly being. She wasn't frightened of him being near her, but she didn't want him to leave her presence. She stayed glued to the ground knowing there was no point in running.
She glanced around not seeing anyone, but the girl knew very well that the creature was observing her intently and that he could see her every move.
"Go ahead." She challenged almost wanting her timely death to happen quicker. There was no point to continue in her mind anymore. "It will be easier tonight for you since I came to you instead of running away. Perhaps you should be thanking me." She said with a dark sense of humor. She was drowning slowly with every second that passed her by.
A dark chuckle began to fill the wooden area making Sophia's breathe quicken as she continued to look for the source. She knew he would probably kill her, but she still just wanted to know what he looked like.
"You are a curious little one.." he muttered still not making his appearance known since he knew that would make them too connected. "What is your name?"
Deep inside him, Derrick knew it would be harder to kill the little rabbit once he connected it to a name. It would perhaps distract him if he was too familiar with the human, but he longed to know her. Everything inside him wanted to know her body and soul even if he could only enjoy it for the evening.
"Sophia." She said calmly no longer trying to find the eyes who continued to hide. It was useless to look for the beast who was use to being the observer. Sophia stood tall staring into the black abyss not flinching at the closeness she had to a night creature. She felt surprising relaxed in the forest.
"Sophia.." he hummed satisfied with the way her name rolled of his lips. She didn't act like some of the villagers he watched when he entered the woods as a child. The girl in front of him acted as an equal which was something his kind would never accept.
"What is your name?" She asked quietly knowing it was a long shot to ask the beast. He was far to superior to her and the fact that she was questioning him was unheard of.
"There's no need for you to know who I am." He scoffed realizing this conversation could become too intimate. "Go home little one. I'm being merciful allowing you to live." Derrick growled finally taking a step away from the scene.
Silence started to spread again among the forest, but Sophia knew he was still around and she couldn't give up the chance.
"You don't have to be merciful." She murmured looking around. "You don't have to wait for the hunt." She whispered knowing he was listening. She was ready to die tonight and deep down that was why she decided to step out of her bedroom tonight.
Derrick was about to walk away when he heard Sophia. He furrowed his brows sensing something within Sophia that was depressing. She wasn't so brave tonight as he had observed on previous days when she seemed to have more fun.
Frowning at her response Derrick almost wanted to drag the girl to her cottage, but he refrained himself waiting for her to continue sensing a sort of dread within her comment. He leaned against a tree watching his prey who eventually sat against the oak looking toward the skies.
Derrick watched her intensely noticing some liquid running down her beautiful face making him tempted to wipe them away…
"Is this your home?" Sophia asked not wanting to lose the contact with the wolf almost enjoying his company. He was almost able to make her forget today. Almost.
"In some way." He said narrowing his eyes watching her sit upon the ground leaning against a tree closing her beautiful blue eyes. She seemed tired for some reason and he had the urge to find out why. "You are being naive by getting to comfortable inside the woods. My kind is not exactly fond of the human race."
"I was hoping you wouldn't be. But for some reason you haven't killed me yet..." Sophia didn't seem to fear the man who was still lingering in the dark. And to his surprise, Sophia didn't hold her tongue in his presence. "I'm ready to die now… and I don't see the point in waiting for the enviable."
"Dying doesn't take the pain away." Derrick said. "It only prolongs it to the next life."
Sophia scoffed making Derrick clench his fists wanting to stop her from ignoring his warnings. He may not be willing to kill her tonight, but there were other creatures in the woods that would kill her with no mercy.
"Besides…" Derrick said with a smirk plastered on his face deciding to play with the little rabbit. "It's more fun to chase a person who has a will to live. Makes them more enjoyable."
Sophia's face paled at his words hearing the dark reality of how much of an animal these creatures were and how they would treat her as food.
"Well, perhaps I'm not fun." She whispered placing her head against the tree wondering if he finally left since the silence stretched forward. It had been a long time since the Wolfman had responded, but she felt oddly contempt in her position in the woods and began to drift into a deep sleep.
Slowly making no noise, Derrick entered into the moonlight by the girl overshadowing her as the dark continued to spread around her. She seemed exhausted and almost vulnerable which was a trait he never expected to see as he stalked his prey this year.
The beast sighed running his hand through his hair knowing he was growing too soft. The creature-like man lifted her in his strong arms as he knelt down next to her small body and felt the tiny human snuggle in close to his warm contact making a soft smile appear on his lips. She was cute and precious like a small little animal lost in the woods.
He knew she would be subject to the hunt, but tonight he didn't want any harm to bestow upon her fragile life and he couldn't help but feel some worry over her state of being.
He made his way toward her cabin entering her home through the same window she escaped.
He slowly placed her on the bed watching her spread her arms over her bed with her chest moving up and down in a perfect rhythm. He gently caressed her face whispering near her ear, "Goodnight little rabbit."
But alas, even with how smart the creatures were with sensing people near and protecting themselves from causing trouble with the village people, someone did see the beast around the Red cabin lurking a bit too closely.
