Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Thinking, Status & the world!

//

Issei Hyoudou. Lvl 1.

The Player/Gamer

//

It seems as though my consciousness has taken the place of that of the main character when I was in the setting of High School DxD.

Almost immediately after I had that idea, a ping sounded in my head, and a message box indicating that I had successfully finished the quest came before my eyes.

Almost immediately after that, a dazzling light emerged on my suddenly cupped palms, and a thin white book materialised in my hands at the same time.

I was confronted by yet another pop-up message box after I was alerted to yet another ping sound.

So, let me make sure I've got this straight. I died. That was unquestionable in my mind. And at that moment, I found myself reborn in the universe of one of my favourite series of anime, manga, or light novels as the series' main character, armed with the talents of the series' main character from another series that I had just started reading...

Surprisingly – or maybe not – I did not feel at ease with that revelation. Instead, I felt more like contentment, albeit in a very sombre manner.

I have to confess that on more than one occasion, I have wished that I could live in a world of fantasy, where I could wield tremendous abilities, fight evil guys, and do whatever needed to be done with the beautiful women that kept showing up in the shows and manga that I have read.

As I closed each of the pop-up windows that had appeared in my line of sight, I came to the realisation that the time had come for me to take advantage of this opportunity.

My first order of business was to determine precisely where in the DxD universe's timeline I currently stood in order to take the next appropriate action.

When I glanced in the mirror once more, I saw myself as Issei, and I understood that I couldn't be too far from the time when the light novels started, given that I appeared to be about Issei's age at the time that it did.

After that, I came to the conclusion that although I did have my memories from my former life, I did not have Issei's memories from this existence.

I remember thinking that Irina Shidou was a boy when we were friends in the past, but that was only in the past. At the time, I was certain that this was the case because I had already read about it in the light novels.

The following step that I needed to do was to get myself ready for whatever was going to hit the fan next.

I made the decision that I would stick to the timeline that was described in the light novels and modify it as little as possible because I knew that even the smallest change may have a significant impact on the events that transpired as a result of my actions.

I will freely admit that one of my greatest concerns was the possibility of being taken aback. If you think being killed as a result of being taken aback while intoxicated is bad, try not being there when it happened.

Following that train of thought brought to mind the book that I had been holding in my hands up until that point, I decided to bring it closer to my face.

Despite the fact that it seemed to be made of darkness and had the texture of a real book, the mission that gave it to me stated that it was a talent book. After concentrating on it, just as I had anticipated, a blue window appeared.

//

You now have the "Mana Manipulation" skill book in your possession.

Would you like to become skilled in this area?

Yes/No

//

I responded in the affirmative and then watched as the book was bathed in brilliant light before I allowed myself to be illuminated by it.

As it subsided and the window vanished on its own, I became conscious of the magical energy whirling inside of me, and information about how to control it flooded my thoughts.

Another window came just as I was beginning to be amazed by the feeling of it; it was like to having a warm limb buried deep within your core that was yearning to be used.

//

Mana Manipulation. Passive. Lvl Max. The person is granted the ability to freely manipulate mana, which refers to the energy that is contained throughout most living things. 10% more Intelligence (INT) is passively gained. 10% of your existing mana pool is added passively.

//

I gave a slight nod in acknowledgement before turning my back on the window and moving away from the mirror so that I could sit down on my bed.

I was aware that even by the standards of this world and the one I came from, I was still in an extremely fragile state; nonetheless, I needed to find out where I stood now at this very instant.

After taking a moment to gather my composure, I made the decision to speak aloud for the first first time since assuming the identity of Issei Hyoudou.

"Status."

As soon as I saw my figures, I was able to quickly get past the fact that my voice sounded different and that I spoke a different language, despite the fact that I still considered it to be English.

They were noticeably superior to what I was anticipating they would be; however, to tell you the truth, I was not astonished by their performance. After giving it some thought for a while, I realised that they made a great deal of sense.

The Strength modifier, or STR, determined how much weight I could carry and how much physical damage I could deal to others. It was rather true in terms of how things turned out.

Before he became a devil and was compelled to engage in physical activity, Issei, as far as I was aware of his character, had never engaged in any sort of training or physical activity.

There was a part of me that wanted to put points into it right away, but I understood that because it was so low, I could raise it by being in better physical shape, and that I should keep those points for a later time.

The same thing occurred with the VIT and DEX modifiers, which stand for vitality and dexterity, respectively.

The quantity of stamina I could muster and my maximum health were directly proportional to my vitality. I came to the conclusion that the amount of VIT impacted the amount of HP on a ratio of 25/1 if the amount of HP I had at level one was 100 without taking into consideration the fact that my VIT was 5.

My reflexes, my reaction time, my coordination, my body awareness, and my ability to do acrobatics and be flexible were all determined by my dexterity.

Dexterity also determined how quickly I could move my body. Because the same thing happened here as it did with STR, we may conclude that the modifier was quite accurate.
