Chapter 24 - Mad Witch ii

As the judge declared a recess and summoned Orin and his companions to his chambers, a hush fell over the courtroom. Orin's heart was pounding as he wondered what was going to happen next.

As they approached the judge's bench, they saw a mysterious stranger standing next to the judge. The stranger was tall and menacing, with piercing eyes that seemed to see straight through them.

Orin's twisted personality kicked in, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of fear and respect for this stranger.

"Gentlemen, this is a private matter," the judge said, gesturing for Orin and his companions to follow him into his chambers.

Once inside, the judge took his seat and the stranger stepped forward.

"Your Honour," he said in a deep, commanding voice.

"I have information that may help clear the name of Orin and his companions."

Orin's eyes widened as the stranger revealed that he had been sent by Orin himself. The judge listened intently as the stranger explained the situation and presented the evidence that he had gathered.

The judge's expression changed from one of surprise to one of understanding. He looked at Orin and his companions and nodded slowly.

"I see," he said.

"This changes everything. You are free to go."

Orin and his companions were stunned. They couldn't believe what was happening. The mysterious stranger had saved them from what seemed like certain imprisonment.

They thanked the stranger and left the courtroom, their spirits lifted and their faith in justice restored.

As they walked out of the building, Orin turned to the stranger and thanked him for his help.

"I don't know who you are," he said.

"But I am in your debt."

The stranger smiled and disappeared into the crowd, leaving Orin and his companions to wonder about the true motives of this mysterious benefactor.

As Orin and his companions left the judge's chambers, they were filled with a sense of relief and gratitude for the stranger who had stepped forward to help them.

However, they also couldn't shake the feeling of unease, wondering who this stranger was and what his true intentions were.

"Do you think we can trust him?" Ein asked Orin, as they made their way back to their temporary lodgings.

Orin nodded, a sly smile playing at the corners of his mouth.

"Of course we can trust him. He's one of my own."

"One of your own?" Ein asked, surprised.

"Yes," Orin confirmed.

"I have many loyal followers who would do anything for me. And this stranger was just one of them, sent to help us in our time of need."

Ein shook his head, still unable to comprehend the extent of Orin's power and influence.

"I never realized just how powerful you truly were, Orin. You truly are the most powerful sorcerer in the world."

Orin chuckled, a hint of darkness in his voice.

"Yes, I am. And I'll do whatever it takes to protect what's mine."

Later, Orin and the stranger walked in the shadows of the town's alleys, making sure that no one was following them.

The stranger spoke first.

"My Lord, I've been investigating this town for weeks now, and I think I have a lead. One of the town's guards, a man named Garret, has been acting suspiciously ever since the murder took place."

"I've been keeping an eye on him, and I'm certain that he's involved in the murder in some way."

Orin listened intently, his eyes narrowing. "Do you have any proof?"

The stranger shook his head.

"Not yet, but I'm working on it. He's too careful, and it looks like he knows that he is being watched."

Orin nodded slowly,

"Be careful. If Garret is involved, then he'll do everything he can to stop us. We can't let him get the upper hand."

The stranger grinned.

"Yes My Lord. And don't worry as I've got a few tricks up my sleeve that Garret won't see coming."

Orin smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. With his agent by his side, he knew that he could tackle any challenge that lay ahead.

Ein, Lilitha, and Zarr breathed a collective sigh of relief as they were finally released from their cell. They emerged into the sunlight, blinking in the brightness, feeling the warmth on their skin after days spent in the dank and cramped space.

They saw Orin approaching them, a smile on his face, and they ran to meet him, embracing him tightly.

Lilitha let out a joyful laugh,

"We did it! We're free!"

Zarr barked happily, wagging his tail. Ein, who had been the most stoic of the group, allowed himself a small smile.

Orin nodded,

"We did it. And now we can finally get back to our original mission." He looked around at the streets of the town, noticing how different they looked now that he was no longer seeing them through bars.

Ein spoke up,

"But what about the murderer? We still don't know who it is."

Orin placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder,

"We'll find out. With all of us working together, there's no way we won't be able to solve this." He turned to Lilitha and Zarr,

"How about we celebrate our newfound freedom?"

Lilitha's eyes lit up,

"Yes! I know just the place." She led the group to a nearby tavern, where they enjoyed a hearty meal and drinks, laughing and reminiscing about the ordeal they had just gone through.

Zarr even had a bit too much to drink and began to get rowdy, barking and chasing his tail around the table, causing the group to laugh even harder.

Ein, who had been quiet for most of the evening, finally let himself relax, feeling a sense of camaraderie with his new companions.

As they made their way back to their lodgings, tired and happy, Orin looked at his companions and felt a sense of pride.

They had faced an unjust accusation, been thrown into jail, and yet they had come out the other side with a stronger bond and a renewed sense of purpose.
