Chapter 10

Rank zero magic.

Rank zero were the most basic spells in existence. They were meant for apprentices who still haven't reached the level of a Rank 1 Magus.

Augustus passed to him a short rod made of wood with a small red stone on the tip.

"This is a practice wand. I know your father gave you a high-quality one, made from a crystal lizard with a high-grade gem. But is best to leave that one for when you become an Ofical Magus."

"I understand." It was normal for an apprentice to use more basic stuff. You don't give the sharpest sword to someone who doesn't even know how to hold it properly.

"Let's begin with the "water ball". Is one of the simplest ones and it cannot backfire.

Siegfried read the intructions. In order to perform magic, one needs to channel the ambient mana into their body, then direct it through the foci (in this case, the wand) while creating a clear mental picture of the spell to cast.

It is all about focus and being able to direct the mana in a clear way.

'The mana mentioned in the book seems to be what we called natural energy in my era. I just need to collect the ambient energy like I do when cultivating, but instead of absorbing it into my body, I'll channel it back outside through the wand. That seems easy enough.'

"Water ball" Siegfried called.

Mana passed through the wand, lighting the crystal on the tip. The spell did its work by condensing the surrounding humidity into a small ball of water the size of a golf ball and it remained floating in front of Siegfried.

"Oh!, you got it on the first try. Well done." Augustus congratulated.

The moment Siegfried lost his focus on the ball, this one fell down on the floor, splashing the water.

"Ops..."

'I guess this is why you start with this spell, instead of something like a fireball. That could have been bad.'

"Don't worry about it. I will bring a container. We will try again and once you cast the spell, move the water ball to the container before letting it go." Instructed Augustus.

The lessons continued after that. He tried another basic spell called "Earth shaping" that could change the shape of a small amount of dirt.

He felt like a kid again, learning the most basic things once more.

Someone else in his position may have felt offended at having to learn the basics of a discipline after becoming a master of a different one. But He didn't mind. He always had an inquisitive mind that wanted to learn new things.

He was quite also impressed by the new ways to use natural energy that people have found.

In the past. Cultivators would only use it in simple but effective ways like enhancing one's physical attributes or channeling it out for some mid range attacks.

------------------------------------

After the morning lessons. Siegfried continued with his harsh physical training.

He would perform physical activities until He was completely exhausted, then cultivate to strengthen his body and then do more physical activities.

The servants who were watching him thought that their young Lord had lost his mind.

Most of them have known Siegfried since He was a baby and He had always tried to stay away from any physical exercises.

Siegfried had always preferred to spend his time reading, listening to music, watching a theatre play, or eating.

"Milord." The voice of Albert, the butler, interrupted Siegfried from his cultivation.

Siegfried opened his eyes to look at the middle age man.

"I hope is important. I don't like being interrupted." His gaze fixed on the Buttler.

Being interrupted in the middle of cultivating could carry heavy consequences. People from his era knew better than to interrupt someone like that, but now, things were different.

Albert trembled slightly.

'What a strong presence!. Since the incident at the Red Forest, the young Lord seems like a different person.'

"My apologies for the interruption Milord. Your father has returned from his trip and wishes to see you."

"Oh?...very well then. Take me to him" Siegfried ordered.

'This could be interesting.'

------------------------------------

Albert opened the door to his father's studio.

Siegfried went in and immediately took note of all of the differences compared to Magus Augustus studio.

While the latter was designed for efficiency and purpose, the former was quite obviously created only for luxury.

His father (like the son) was quite a voluminous man. His red hair was less vivid than Siegfried's. He also had an abundant beard and a kind face.

"Ah, Siegfried!, come in, let me take a look at my son." He stood up from his chair and approached him.

After giving him a quick hug, his father started to look him up and down. "I have spoken with the doctor already, but I had to see for myself that you were not hurt."

"Im fine....father" He hasn't called anyone like that in many years.

"Take a seat, we have some things to discuss."

Once Siegfried took a seat in front of the desk. His father approached a young maid with long brown hair that He has never seen before.

She seemed to be cleaning the dust from the shelves. His father got behind her and gently caressed her butt cheeks.

The maid didn't seem startled or surprised, she was obviously used to this treatment.

"That would be all for now, Agatha dear. I wish to speak with my son alone. Why don't you come back in an hour to finish your...job." His father had a lewd smile as He looked at his maid.

"Of course, Milord." She gave courtesy to both father and son before leaving the room.

"Lovely thing isn't she? Her mother is also at my service. Sometimes I enjoy them both at the same time." His father chuckled.

'With a father like that is no wonder that the previous owner of this body turned out like this...'

"Father, you wanted to discuss something with me?." He rather not keep hearing about the man's activities.

His father laughed loudly.

"There is no need to be shy, my son. A Lord enjoying the attention of his servants is a normal thing. I assume you have your fun with your two maids...but it's true that I didn't call you to talk about that."

He placed his hands on the desk and his expression grew serious.

"That little adventure of yours to the Red Forest...can you explain to me what were you thinking!?"
