" Hmph just watch me then." Miles said glaring at the empty space where Ava was standing. The temperature dropped so low that it even affected a non living creature like himself. Then he heard whispers from the wind as it blew past him. 'I'm sure you don't mind being a snack for Kerberos' Miles froze. Did he hear right. Ker.. Kerberos the three-headed hellhound and guardian of hell that went missing some years back. No it can't be. Maybe she's bluffing. He nod at his thoughts.
"Yes, she's just bluffing. How can a mere mortal know about hell's dog." He muttered to himself as he started laughing startling Abel who was still paralyzed on the ground.
"Who is there?"
"Oh shut up mortal and start digging as the little girl had instructed. A lowly mortal like you don't deserve to know who is speaking except if you want to die." Miles said haughtly as he stared at Abel pale face.
Hearing the word die snapped Abel out if his traumatic trance. He shakily got on his feet and started digging as he was instructed. He didn't want to die now. He still has a little sister to care of.
"Hmph now that'smore like it. Dig faster before the crazy little girl comes back. " Miles said.
"I thought the both of us were asked to do it." Abel asked blurted out as he breath heavily. He had alrady dug the grave mid-way but only him can't do it within a short span of time.
"What did you just say?" Miles said unable to believe that the lousy mortal talked back at him. Where did he summon courage to speak to the great him like that. "How d-" Miles couldn't complete his words as a high-pitched howl was heard not too far from where they were standing. The smell of burning brimstone filled the air as a growling sound was heard next.
Miles was dumbfounded. 'There's no way' His mind still refused to believe what he was hear. "Haha maybe it's just my overreacting mind acting up. There's no -" The growling became louder and nearer as the smell of burning brimstone became strong.
The ground started shaking as if an earthquake about to happen as heavy footstep was seemingly approaching them. The heavy steps were coming from the rose bush at their side. The heavy steps that were responsible for the shaking ground ceased as a small black dog emerge from the rose bush. The two people who were a quivering mess froze at the sight of the small black dog.
Miles was the first to break the silence with his loud and scratchy laughter. Abel sighed in relief at the sight of the dog. He did not want any encounter with any supernatural creatures again.
The same black dog tilted his head as it stared at the human who was sitting tiredly inside a half dug grave then his eyes shifted towards the grim reaper who was laughing so hard. His eyes glowed red which the people there failed to notice. Suddenly the small and cute dog turned into a giant three-headed beast with glowing and almost flaming red eyes.
Miles who laughing froze with his mouth opened as he stared at the beast before him. He refused to believe his hollow holes that he was standing in front of the legendary guardian of hell. Abel fainted due to shock.
"Hell no..." Miles gasp, was this really Kerberos but why is he here? His eyes widened in realization. "Was he summoned by the little girl." When the beast saw that the reaper was lost in his thoughts, he growled and took a step forward.
"What do you need from me oh! mighty guardian of hell." Miles said in hopes to please the beast. Kerberos tilted its heads at the reaper then with it's long dragon tail, it pisked up the shovel and threw it at the reaper. "Yo..You want me to dig?" Miles asked in surprise. " I can't do that. I'm Miles the sixth grim-" Kerberos growled at him as it took another step forward baring it sharp teeth at Miles.
"Okay, okay, I'm digging alright, I'm digging. A great reaper like me has been reduced to nothing less than a digger. How shameful." Miles complained as he dug the body out.
A minute later, Ava walked into the garden with a plate of cookies. "K!" On seeing Ava, the giant beast wagged it monstrous tail happily before transforming into a cute little black puppy.
'Woof! Woof!' It bark as he ran towards Ava to receive a reward for the job he had done.
"Good job K." Ava said as she pat its head. "Here's a cookie." She placed the plate on the ground. And like a good dog , Kerberos started eating it.
Miles bony jaw almost touched the floor at the sight he was seeing. Where did the frightened beast that was here go? Ava paid no attention to the confused grim reaper who staring at her cute puppy. Feeling the piercing gaze of someone, Kerberos growl at him making Miles jump in fright before walking towards Ava who was busy examining the dead body.
"How did you get your hands on Kerberos?"
"Animal shelter."
"Do you think you can fool me?"
"Hopefully. " Ava replied nonchalantly.
"Answer me little girl. How did Kerberos end up with you." Miles bellowed, his earlier fear had disappear and he was acting like how a grim reaper should.
"Do you wish to be a rogue reaper?" Ava asked the reaper.
"What are you saying-" Miles asked in confusion. A distant sound of a bell ringing enter his ears. He quickly check his pocket watch and saw that he had spent more than his designated time to pick a soul. Forgetting about Ava and her cute dog, he quickly gathered the souls he came for and disappear into thin air.
"Clumsy reaper." Ava stood up from where she was sitting. "Right?"
"Woof!" Kerberos barked in agreement.
"Pick him up, let's go." Ava said as she walked away.
