Chapter 47 - 47 Almost Set A New Record

Milas and Aileen had tried to put up a good fight but everything went downhill when the twins got serious. There bodies lay motionless as the pain from their broken bones and torn muscles felt worse with every movement they attempted. This was one of the downsides to being a vampire. You could basically be beaten to a somewhat fatal level but the healing factor ensured that death can be avoided as time passes.

The twins had left the room to go clean up. The only sounds in the room were the pained moans from Aileen and the wheezing breath of Milas. His lung was punctured and wasn't healing properly. His body couldn't fix itself with the little energy it had left so the best it could manage was keeping him stable. The twins returned with flasks of blood and handed them to the first years. The two needed to be fed at first but could soon do it themselves. They were back to their former glory and the only proof on them were the blood stained uniforms.

"This was the last pair I have. Where am I supposed to get a clean uniform now?" Milas was honestly annoyed by how quickly he had gone through the uniforms provided by the school.

"If you need a new pair just go to your dorm master. You hand over the dirty or torn clothes and he gives you a new pair. Weren't you told about this on your first day." Veruca was the one who answered. She was oddly nice when no one was fighting.

"I was kind of unconscious so I missed the debriefing." Milas realized that he didn't even know the rules. He was basically following the schedule given to him until someone randomly attacked him. His life had turned into a constant fight for survival. His life as a street urchin wasn't any better but at least he could rest once in while even though it was at the risk of starving.

"I hate you. Your existence annoys me to no end." Aileen said and left the room. The words were sudden and even the twins were surprised.

"I have no idea what you did to her but you need to find out and make up for it. She seems to be the vengeful kind. Anyway I'll be seeing you in a few days since we now have to meet twice a week instead of once since you wouldn't stop fighting. I suggest you avoid doing that since the disciplinary board will assign third year students to handle you. Those people are worse than we are so remember that before going at at each others throats." The warning from Claus was clear and Milas didn't want to encounter anymore third year students.

Milas left the disciplinary building and returned to his room. He gathered all the ruined pairs of uniform and headed down to the lobby where the dorm master was playing with his dagger like he usually does. Milas didn't even have to say a word as the man gave him five new pairs which was more than the ruined pairs.

"I'm just surprised that it took you so long then again, you don't look like the brightest bulb." The dorm master said and proceeded to spin his dagger completely ignoring Milas' presence. Milas didn't take the insult to heart as it reminded him that he needed to get mana crystals. He left the dorm and wandered around the massive compound.

He noticed that the school was divided in such a way that the different year students couldn't interact with each other. Milas had been walking around for sometime and realized that very few vampires walked around in the day despite owning the rings. The few who did seemed to be running some errands and not aimlessly wandering like he was.

He knew that he had about an hour before having to attend the resistance class. Milas continued to walk around before suddenly leaping up with all his strength. He scaled a light post near him with the same momentum and snatched the light crystal at the top. He let go of the post and landed heavily raising some dust. A small dark circle materialized and swallowed the crystal as Milas continued walking like nothing happened.

He returned to his room and locked the door behind him. He sat crosslegged on the floor and summoned the crystal from his bracelet. The small dark circle delivered it into his palm. Milas was amazed but he was short on time. He quickly started to absorb the crystal. The first thing he noticed was that the mana particles glowed brighter than usual and would keep glowing even when inside his body.

Milas was horrified when he saw tiny star like glows flowing through the veins in his hands. He observed them keenly and noticed that they fizzled out after reaching his shoulders. He ignored the strange effect and was glad that it didn't hurt like the ones in the mines. The only downside was that the pleasurable sensation would only happen after the mana particles fizzled out.

Milas completely focused on absorbing the mana crystal as fast as he could. This resulted in a light show as the bright glow could be seen through his uniform. It looked like hundreds of stars were coursing through his veins only to disappear as they reached his chest. The flow of light suddenly ended when the depleted crystal cracked and turned into dust.

Milas finally opened his eyes as he had closed them to maintain focus. His body felt alive and invigorated. He could feel the pulse from his crystal being slightly stronger than before. He was about to start trying to talk to Van but his bracelet vibrated and his schedule materialized above it. This was a reminder that his resistance lesson was starting. Milas left the dorm along a few other students.

The arrow led Milas all the way to the roof of the classroom block where he found everyone gathered and the instructor was taking everyone's ring of shade away. The rings were placed into the tiny compartments of a wooden drawer that was placed up here for some reason. The lesson was pretty simple, you just sit down in the sun until the instructor sees that you're at your limits and tells you to leave.

Milas knew that he could already last an hour so his limit wasn't going to be reached anytime soon. He sat crosslegged and closed his eyes before concentrating on his blood crystal. His energy had calmed down a lot so he decided to just focus on the spread. Milas got bored after a while and challenged himself by seeing how fast he could make the spread of energy through his body become.

He managed to make it move really fast but he soon realized that it refused to slow down. The energy was slowly becoming unstable so he desperately tried to reign it in. He was about to win over it when the prickling sensation from his skin that he had been ignoring became incessant itching. The sun was affecting him at the worst time possible.

The energy was now more turbulent than before. Milas tried channelling it to his skin but he felt like he was on fire. The energy worsened the effects of sunlight when close to his skin. Milas was panicking and was about to create the blood needle when the energy started to settle. It soon vanished and the spread went back to normal. Milas didn't know what happened but someone else knew.

"Next time you cultivate blood energy make sure to have a specific target to improve otherwise you'll kill yourself." The deep and beastly voice said in his mind. Milas didn't like the phoenix but he had saved his life when it mattered so he knew that he could trust him.

"Where did the energy go? Don't tell me that you absorbed it." Milas wanted to know this useful piece of information for the next time he planned on experimenting with his blood crystal.

"I can't absorb your blood energy directly since it contains your will. I only used it to improve your own body like it's supposed to be used." Van was tired of explaining things to the idiot since he was already in school and these things would be taught to him eventually. The problem was that the fool seemed determined to kill himself. He would always find himself in life or death situations even when doing something as simple as reading. Van had no choice but to help him if he ever wished to survive.

"So the spread of energy in my body has another use other than the blood needle?" Milas was excited by the fact that he could gain something that might be useful in a fight.

"The reason your teacher told you to channel the energy to your eyes is because blood energy strengthens the body. The only thing she didn't account for was that someone will be stupid enough to channel vast amounts of it. The best thing to do now is to continue cultivating and channel the energy to your bones. They are strong enough to endure it and will become tougher than before. Just make sure that you don't channel too much or you will shatter them." Van finished his explanation and his voice started to fade.

Milas could feel that a weight was taken off his mind. He didn't know that it was there but now that it left, he finally realized that it might have been caused by Van. He'll just ask him when he got the chance. He opened his eyes and saw that the instructor was sitting right in front of him.

"Do you want to stop the resistance training right here?" The question was sudden but Milas didn't mind stopping since he had nothing better to do.

"I think I've reached my limit for the day." Milas lied since he wasn't at his limit. The only limit he reached was that of his comfort zone since the itching had gotten worse.

"You can leave now." Milas stood up and realized that he was the only student remaining on the roof.

"Where is everyone else?"

"They left when they reached their limits. I also hate to be the one to tell you this but despite the effort you made you haven't broken the school record" The instructor sounded genuinely sympathetic.

"What record are you talking about?"

"The record for the longest resistance training time for a first year student in school history. You fell short by half an hour despite lasting an hour. You can try again when you have more practice, I expect a lot from you." Milas could have broken the record with some effort but he didn't want the attention it might bring. He just smiled and left the rooftop.

Milas didn't have time for anymore stuff as he needed to meet Miss Priscilla in the forest and was running late.
