Chapter 28 - Oath of revenge

Despite all the sensations that grasped Naveah's mind, she had to face interrogation by law enforcement officers. The person who was in charge of her interrogation set foot inside the room and she looked up to see a familiar clean-cut with an intense gaze, it was none other than Mr Vermin himself.

"I never thought I'll meet you again like this," He said while looking at Naveah who seemed unaffected by his words.

"This interrogation is futile, I know very well. But still have to do it regardless. I need your cooperation." Vermin let out a sigh as he looked at Naveah who was still staring at the table with her numb gaze.

"So Ms Naveah Tylar what were you doing that night?" Vermin started his questions.

His words made Naveah flinch since they lashed at her core.

She clenched her teeth and looked sideways, "Shouldn't you be starting to look for the real murderer instead of wasting your time on me? Huh?"

"Right now you are the main suspect to others, so I'd like you to clarify some situations so I can clear the misunderstanding. This is law, even if I know you better I can't take your side unless you give me an option."

"What makes me the main suspect here?" Naveah's impassive gaze moved on to Vermin.

"Why do I feel like I'm the one being interrogated? Anyway, firstly, before their death both of them called a single person. That was you. Secondly, a brick covered in blood was found near your house." He peeked at her confused expression.

"What? Near...My house? Do you mean.....she came to me that night?" Naveah felt more and more guilty about the words she kept hearing.

"So what were you exactly doing that night? Were you with someone?" He placed his hands on the table.

"....No, I got fired that day. So I turned off my phone and strolled around alone." Naveah stared right into his eyes without a blink.

".....I don't know what you're planning. But I can't help you if you keep up like this." He said while standing up.

"Since you have no intention to cooperate I'll take my leave for today. But-" He tapped her shoulder "I'll advise you, don't let your emotions devour you. Sometimes the people we trust the most are responsible for the biggest doom." He walked away leaving her into deep thoughts,

She was left alone inside the prison by the cops. The dark large walls were gaping at her when she stood in front of them in silence. Her knees lost their balance as she dropped to the ground in distress and pain. Her eyes exploded into tears as she clenched her chest while whining, "This is all my fault...Only if I didn't turn my phone off, this wouldn't have happened. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry Nick.....Samantha. I should've been the one to die, it should've been me.'' Hitting the ground with her fists, she kept venting her anger on herself for hours until a sudden realization hit her as she

took a deep breath and glanced at the walls with a fierce gaze ''I will avenge you. I will find that bastard and make him suffer ten times more than you guys did. I don't care if that makes me a murderer."

"Do you have something to say? If not then get out." Zane said to Emmi who's been standing near his desk while staring at him.

"I-Mam, I heard from the staff that Ms Naveah was arrested for the recent murder."

"What??!!" Zane slammed the table from shock.

"Bring me my coat, why didn't you tell me sooner?" He said while rushing.

"I thought it was a rumour at first and you seemed calm." She said while helping him with the coat.

"Take care of the rest I won't be back today." He rushed out of the office while mumbling some vague words ".....-you bastard!"

.

.

Naveah could hear the footsteps coming closer to her cell.

"What an unexpected sight of our former agent" She turned to see the face she despised the most, the face of Officer David.

Naveah wore an annoyed smirk on her lips while looking away.

"Not so delighted to see me, huh? I didn't come here to fight. You're here for your own mistake. Why don't you just say everything and go home? Well, who knows? Someone probably will come and take you from here." David said from behind.

"Do you even know what bullshit you are spouting? You people know very well the real culprit is out there and yet you're wasting your time. You should quit being an officer." Naveah shook her head.

"The evidence says otherwise. Well, if you're really not the culprit then just start explaining, that would help I guess." He said while walking away.

David got out of the prison building while making a phone call.

"Yea I just got out o-" he stopped, when his smirking eyes met with Zane's glare as he passed by.

"Oh! Nothing, a wind just passed by." David said on the phone with a smirk while walking to his destination.

"Naveah!"

The voice once again startled Naveah's heart as she looked behind to see Zane.

"T-tessa? What are you doing here? The police are here, go back. Are you crazy?" She grabbed the bars, panicking.

"Don't worry about them. I came here to get you." He opened the door and pulled her out.

He took her straight to his apartment and closed the door to wrap his arms around her.

"I was thinking why you weren't giving me any calls since morning. I didn't reach out thinking you were still not feeling good. But when I heard you were arrested I couldn't stay still." Zane buried his head on her shoulder.

"Why did you do that Tessa?" She sighed and said, "I have a lot to talk about but it's better if I take a shower first." Naveah seemed paranoid.

"Sure, go ahead I'll get your dresses."

On the other side,

Oliver stood frozen while staring with his golden eyes into the empty cell, clenching the key in his hand, "Seems like I'm a bit late. Some other pest arrived here first...."
