The sun beamed down on the city of Altom. Crowds of people covered the sidewalks and streets. The honking of horns echoed through the bustling city.
A boy halted at a crosswalk as he waited for the cars to stop. His hair blew around as a gust of wind brushed against him. As he began walking across the crosswalk, something caught his eye.
An advertisement shined bright on the side of a building. It was a competition for a spot in Spirit Academy. The boys eyes glowed bright as a smile formed on his face. A loud honk snapped him out of his trance causing him to jump back in fright.
"Sorry!" the boy shouted. He ran to the other side and took one more look at the advertisement. A smile formed on his face once more. He jumped in excitement and began walking.
"I want to check out that advertisement after I get myself some breakfast" he said as he stopped in front of a local convenience store. The boy stepped inside the store and turned his head a few times before walking.
The boy picked up two plastic boxes and held them up. "Tuna sandwich or Tuna wrap... oh jeez both are delicious..." he groaned and sighed. "I'll just get the sandwich" he said to himself.
He walked over to the register and checked out. As he left the store, a boy with a bookbag ran past him. "Wonder where he's going?" he asked himself. The boy let out a sigh and smiled brightly.
"Time to head to the competition" he said as he took the sandwich out of the plastic box. He bit into the sandwich and threw the box into a trashcan.
The boy began running in excitement. His legs moving faster than ever before. He soon reached his destination, however he was having trouble slowing himself down.
The boy quickly collided with another person. The two fumbled onto the ground, both groaning in pain.
"ah, sorry!" the boy said. His head slightly pounding from the collision. "Ouch, it's fine just watch where you're going next time." they responded as they rubbed their head.
The boy stood up and reached his hand out. "Names Kaito, Kaito Nakamura." The boy said with a smile. "Yuto, Yuto Watanabe" the other boy smiled back as he grabbed his hand and stood up.
"So are you here for the competition as well?" Kaito asked. "Yeah! I've always wanted to attend here but my parents never allowed me, however I managed to convince them this once." Yuto said with a grin.
"Well lets head in then, Yuto Watanabe" Kaito raised his hand up and made a fist. "Right!" Yuto fist bumped him and the two walked down the path leading to the entrance of the building.
As they entered, their jaws dropped. "This place is massive! I mean look at the fancy interior" Yuto said, his eyes now borderline sparkling. "So I guess we should try and find the office so we can sign up?" Kaito said as he looked around.
"Gentlemen, I don't recognize you two, are you here for the competition by any chance?" A man asked. Both of the boys jolted as they looked up at the somewhat tall man.
"Uh- uh- Yeah" Kaito said nervously. "Yeah, we were wondering where to sign up?" Yuto asked the man. "Ah good, well follow me I'll take you there" The man said as he started walking. Kaito and Yuto looked at one another before smiling in pure excitement. The boys quickly followed suit.
The man suddenly stopped and turned to face a door. He grabbed the doorknob and pushed the door open. "Here you boys go, good luck" the man said with a ominous grin.
"You first Kaito..." Yuto said with a followed up gulp. Kaito nodded and entered the room, Yuto entering right after him. The boys looked at the man behind his desk with his arms crossed.
"Please, do sit." he asked, his voice silky and smooth. They quickly sat down and nervously tapped their foot.
"So, you boys want to sign up for this competition?" he asked. Both Kaito and Yuto nodded in sync.
"Well in that case I'll grab the papers" he said as he reached into his desk and pulled out two papers. He then sat them on the table in front of the boys. "Just put your signature here and you'll be good to go"
Yuto looked over at Kaito with a slightly concerned expression. "Are you sure you want this?" he asked. Kaito turned to face Yuto with a determined look. "I want this more than anything!" Kaito said as he turned back to the paper and signed off.
Yuto hesitated for a moment but reluctantly signs anyway. "Great, would you boys care for some water before you go?" the man asked with a more sinister grin.
"Uh I think we're go-" he was quickly interrupted by a grunt that came from the man. "Don't be so hesitant, please it's completely free." Kaito thought about the offer and slightly nodded.
A man in a suit suddenly walked into the room with two cups of water. He sat them on the table in front of the boys and walked away. "Please, help yourselves" the man said.
Kaito picked up the cup and looked over at Yuto. He held the cup up and smiled. "Let's give it our all, yeah?" Yuto picked his cup up and looked at Kaito. "Yeah!" the boys chuckled and lightly clinked their cups together.
As the boys chugged their waters, the man behind the desk stood up straight and began chuckling. The boys looked at the man with a confused look. Suddenly the boys got lightheaded and quickly passed out.
"Welcome to Spirit Academy boys."
