Chapter 10 - You are scared of me?

"Why did you tell her those things? Do you know how obsessed she is with those kinds of old stories? Now she is going to bother me to tell her stories like that every now and then. It's very hard to raise kids, I don't want to spoil her, you know." Veronica looked at William as she said those words.

As Roselyn left the dining area and went upstairs to her room, it became awkward between the two of them at first. Veronica didn't know how to initiate a conversation with William. However, after thinking for a few more minutes, she gathered some courage and opened her mouth.

William could understand that Veronica was trying to get to the point but she wasn't able to bring herself to ask him about the things that he did earlier.

"You can ask me about the things that you witnessed earlier. You don't have to take the conversation in another direction, I know it's not about Roselyn, it's about those scumbags that I killed earlier. You can just tell me if you are scared of me," William responded to Veronica as he deeply looked into her eyes.

Upon hearing William's words and noticing his deep gaze fixated on her, Veronica's heart started beating faster and louder than usual again. She turned dead silent for a few minutes. After all, she was not expecting William to be that blunt about killing those guys. He had no remorse or any semblance of empathy in his eyes.

"You don't feel anything about killing those people in cold blood?" She whispered in a shaky voice.

A smile appeared on William's face when he heard those words.

"Would you have preferred if they killed me instead? Those scumbags were sinners. They did so many dark deeds you can't even imagine. I did what I felt like doing. Don't think that I did those things for you. Those bastards interrupted me when I was about to have a proper meal after a very long time," William responded with a smile.

Hearing William's words Veronica was taken aback, but deep down she knew that those people were scum who could go to any length for money. It was because of those people that no one wanted to come to this place. Slowly, everything was falling apart. For the last few days, even Roselyn was living in constant fear.

Veronica turned silent as she didn't have any answers. William took a deep sigh when he saw Veronica like that. He knew that she was just scared seeing him like that. It was not about the people that he killed earlier, it was about him because she could not accept seeing him like that.

"Well, thank you for your food, it's been a while since I had that great food, take this," William said as he placed a pouch of silver coins in front of Veronica. He took them from the people that he killed earlier. He knew how humans traded, he had learned a lot from reading the mind of the fisherman whom he met outside of the city.

Veronica was taken aback as she heard William's words and realized that William was about to leave. She raised her head and looked at him in disbelief.

"What is wrong with you, three freaking bodies are lying in front of my hotel and you are about to leave!? How can you do that to me? If anyone came to know about them, my life will be finished along with Roselyn's. Sooner or later, that freak Nolan will know about his missing men and he will send more, you don't know how powerful his background is," Veronica lashed out in fear as she looked at William with a pale face.

"Oh, I almost forgot about those dead guys. Don't worry, I will take care of them before leaving this place. One more thing, you don't have to worry about that Nolan guy too, I will make sure to pay him a visit." William replied calmly and started walking towards the exit.

"Stop... what do you mean by that? Don't tell me you are going to kill him next…'' Veronica nearly choked when she heard William's words. When she chased after him to ask this in disbelief, William scratched his head and gave her a bitter smile.

"Yeah, something like that. It's better if he joins his mates in hell." William said casually. Hearing those words coming out of William's mouth, Veronica felt another chill run down her spine. Her heart began throbbing like a drum. She couldn't believe how crazy William was acting. It was as if killing another human being was not a big thing for him at all.

"You are not going anywhere, you are staying here. Follow me, I can't let you loose in the peaceful streets of this city. If Lady Baroness comes to know that someone like you is roaming around here and killing people in cold blood, she will definitely be coming for you. At that point, no one can you save from her wrath." Veronica whispered and grabbed William's hand to drag him upstairs.

William had a smile on his face as he heard Veronica's words.

As for the possibility of someone killing him, it had been an eternity since he opened his eyes. He bore witness to countless wars and fought an uncountable number of ancient beings but no one ever managed to kill him.

This was the second time William heard the name of the woman who was known by the title of Baroness. That woman started to pique his interest but right now he had a smile on his face as he saw a confused-looking Veronica acting as if she knew what she was doing. She had no idea why she was taking someone who killed people like cutting cabbages to stay at her place.
