"I need some alone time. You go first, the others are waiting for us. I'll be there", he said
"We're not done, Luke", I said.
"Not now, Sarah, please", he said.
"Fine. I'll meet you in the dining room," I said as I dressed.
"I sincerely apologize for all I've done," he said. I paused and my jaw dropped. What? Apologize?! Unbelievable!
"You're forgiven," I said, smiling.
I miss you, I miss your soft and loving voice. I can't get you out of my mind and heart. There isn't a day that goes by when I don't look for you. You're nowhere, even my power is lacking to find you. What else should I do to meet you? Let us band together, leave this place, and live happily ever after. Wherever you are, listen to my heart's voice, hear my heart's gripe. I am waiting for you.
Luke's phone rang.
"Son, any word on Sarah? Has she back?", asked Sarah's father.
"I'm so sorry, I forgot to inform you, she's home now," he apologized.
"Thank God! We were so worried back here", said Sarah's father with relief.
"Don't be, she's fine", he said.
"Anyway, I'm relieved to hear that. Have a good evening", said Sarah's father.
"You too, sir", he said,
After freshening up, Luke joined us in the dining room. He took a seat next to me, we smiled at each other.
"What's going on there?", Delores whispered to the ladies.
"It's unusual for them to smile at each other", said Reggie.
"How's the meeting, Luke?", asked Silas.
"Everything is going great. We'll start working on the new project tomorrow," Luke remarked.
"What brilliant news, son! I'm proud of you", said Silas, delighted.
"Congrats", I entwined my finger in his.
"Thanks", said Luke.
"They are holding hands!", said Beth.
"I wonder what just happened between these two?" Delores mused.
"My son went inside the room with a flash of rage, and came out gently?! I was expecting a fight!", said Delores.
"Yeah! I didn't hear any noise from their room", said Indy.
All the ladies' eyes were on Indy.
"The room fell silent!" exclaimed Reggie, as if she had realized something.
"My goodness! There used to be the sound of fighting between them, but... the noise faded away", said Beth.
"Could she have done something to him?", said Sadie.
"Maybe", said Beth.
"We should keep an eye on her", said Sadie.
"I have a bad feeling about her", said Delores.
"I've had a bad feeling since I knew she existed", said Sadie.
"She went out and back, and all of a sudden my son became gentle to her", said Delores, as a deep suspicion flooded her mind.
"Something is wrong, we can't allow that to happen," Reggie replied.
"Or he won't be on our side anymore", said Beth.
"I've been watching you ladies, rather than enjoying your dinner, what are you guys discussing?!", said Silas.
"We were just discussing the series we watched earlier. It was very fascinating!" Delores replied.
"Never make food wait for you. You can discuss it afterward", Silas said.
"We won't do that again", said Delores.
"We're sorry Brother", said Beth and Reggie.
I laughed. I slipped my hand into Luke's arm, as I grinned at them. My husband took my hand in his. It was a treasure seeing their faces. I should do this more often.
As we finished our dinner, we walked arm to arm to our room, leaving those mad b******.
After our brief talk, I chose to stay, even though he was angry or shouted at me for no apparent reason.
I saw the real him, the one he'd been hiding all along. I'm willing to help him release his unhealed wound. I'll bring back that good-hearted man.
I'm going to dig up all the truth about him and find out who "They" are! My husband doesn't deserve this. One thing I am certain of is the bad things that have happened to my husband have something to do with this family. I stared at my husband who was sleeping like a baby.
It's no surprise you became the way you were after seeing your family. Everything will come to an end, you can be yourself again, you'll have your happily ever after. Even if it means sacrificing my love one day. I'm with you at all times. I touched his cheek.
My eyes were still tired, like dozing for an hour. Luke walked in, while I made the bed. He took a few files from the drawer.
"Morning", he said while checking the files.
"Morning", I smiled. A brand-new morning.
"Let's get some breakfast", he said, as he held the files.
This is life!
I followed him downstairs. We shared breakfast before I escorted him to the front door. He used to resist it, but now he lets me.
After he drove away. The previous night's thoughts come to mind. Where do I begin?
I returned to the kitchen, carrying the dishes with both hands. I strolled right past them. I was pleased to see such unpleasant faces. What a lovely view!
Some people prefer to cause chaos and gossip rather than do their own dishes. Oh, sorry, their skin will peel off if they do the dishes.
"Hi Sarah", said Reggie.
"Hi, aunty Gie, good morning", I answered.
"What are you doing?", she asked.
"I wash the dishes?", I said.
"I didn't see", said Reggie.
"You look great today," she said.
"I am, and your nephew too", I said.
"I can see that. We see how he behaves to you, we are surprised, he's not the person he used to be", she said.
"He's just being himself, a decent man the first time I met. Not the person some people turn him into", I said.
"Touchy", she said.
"What did you do to him?", she asked, seriousness on her face.
"Nothing, just being a good wife", I said.
"No worries, I won't do anything to your nephew. I mean my husband. Unlike certain people in his life who prefer to do evil things," I said, looking at Reggie and the ladies who were watching our chat.
"Any more questions, aunty? It gives me great pleasure to answer all of your and your group's questions," I said.
"I have nothing else to ask!" she exclaimed. She headed back to her friends.
Day by day, I enjoy getting the ladies heated up. I like my new job.
As they disappeared into their space, Ruth entered the kitchen with a plate in her hand.
"Place it here", I said.
"That's OK, ma'am", said Ruth.
"Come on! Let me wash it", I said.
She insisted on not letting me wash the dishes. As I stepped out of the kitchen, a thought crossed my mind.
"Ruth, would you mind accompanying me for a little while? I don't have someone to talk to," I said.
"No, ma'am, I don't mind at all", she said.
"Are you sure? Do you still have any chores to do?" I asked.
"Gladly, I've finished them all. I'll have to wait till midday for further cleaning," she explained.
"Finally, I have someone to spend my time with", I said.
"So, how long have you been working here?", I asked.
"A very long time ago, since your husband was a teenager," she remarked.
"What? Are you serious?", I said, unbelievable.
"Yes!", she laughed.
"I used to bring my daughter to help me out. Not anymore," she explained.
"Why?", I asked
"She eloped just on your wedding night," she explained.
"When I got back, she wasn't there", she said.
"I'm sorry to hear that. Do you know where she is now?", I asked.
"I've no idea where she's. I don't care either, they're all grown up", she said.
I can see that she doesn't look sad at all.
"Women can be obstinate at times. I forbid them from being together. He's not independent and has no job. How are you going to support your wife and kids in the future?", she said.
"They never think about their future", she said.
"That's life, regret comes later", I said.
"Love, if there's no money, is the same as a lie, you can't provide them with the word of L O V E", she said.
"Perfect quote, we have to be more realistic", I said.
"By the way, you can call me Sarah. I'm not comfortable with you addressing me ma'am," I explained.
"I can't do that", she said.
"Why not?", I asked.
"I'm a maid, a worker, you are my boss", she said.
"Really?"
"Okay, if that's the problem, I ordered you to call me by my name", I said.
"Ma'am, don't say that, if the elders hear me call you by name, I'm afraid my job will be at stake", she said.
"You can call me by my name if the elders are not around," she said.
"Emm... Okay..."
"Okay... what?", I said.
"Okay Sarah", she said.
"Better than ever", we both laughed.
"I had known Abrams for a long time before I worked with them. I knew your in-laws' parents," she explained.
"WOW! You're that old lady!" I said.
"How are they?", I asked.
"Mr.Silas' father was nice, friendly, and attractive. I have to look up when I speak to him," she explained.
"And his wife?"I asked.
She gave a headshake.
"B**** face, frigid and fussy, she likes to wander around by herself, she doesn't care about her children. She gave birth to them only to leave them alone," she explained.
No wonder they're evil.
"You could say, born, fed, and done, that's all. She walks around after that. I don't get why he picked that woman." she said.
"Wrong choice," I chuckled.
She nods, "It is Mrs. Silas who looks after them, which is why they were close to your mother-in-law,"
I gleaned a lot of information from her in a short time. Didn't bother to get her opened up.
"Your mother-in-law is a fine lady," she said.
I recalled what she had done to me. Very fine!
"Fine as what she has done to me?", I said.
"Something got into her when it comes to you, but, both of them are nice to me." Ruth
"How?", I asked
"They're generous and frequently give us tips, especially your mother-in-law," she remarked.
I creased my brows. I don't get why those people are seen as super good.
"Isn't it seen from behavior, characteristic? You can't say she's kind because she gave you money," I said.
"For workers like us, they are good people, we need money, we don't look at their behavior or characteristics", she said.
"You've gone blind," I said.
"As long as it rules you, you will always be where you are now, and you will never get anything you want," I explained.
"Whatever you say, Sarah"
"And Ruth, thank you", I said.
"For what?", she asked.
"For the whip", I said.
She chuckled.
"Did they yell at you?" I questioned.
"No Sarah, I mean not yet", she said.
"Aren't you afraid of losing your job?" I questioned.
"Whatever wants to happen, will happen", she said.
We spent a brief bit of time in the morning discussing the Abrams. However, not all about my husband was divulged.
