Eighteen years ago, a baby girl was born to a poor family of six on the outskirts of Ephemere.
The family was struggling to survive. She was an unwelcome addition, just another mouth to feed. Her birth was unplanned, never meant to see the light of day. One could assume that she was unwanted, although her parents and three sisters would never tell her that.
But she felt it anyway.
Even as a little child, she felt their coldness, their aloofness, whenever she attempted to associate with her sisters. She barely saw her father, who was out for the entire day doing various odd jobs to sustain the family. Her mother worked as a maid in a lord's household, a long walk from their tiny home.
One day, some years later, her mother decided to bring the little girl along to her work, making her promise not to misbehave and make herself as insignificant as possible inside the lord's manor.
