"Luca? Luca!" I began shaking him awake, my anxiety growing.
Luca stirred, his eyes fluttering open briefly before closing again. "C–cold," he muttered drowsily, his teeth chattering.
Grabbing all the sheets from the dresser, I threw them over Luca's quivering body, tucking the edges to his sides. I fled the room and added more logs to the fire on the hearth until it felt like the small cabin was an oven.
Leaving the bedroom door wide open so the heat could enter, I covered Luca with our cloaks and wrapped the scarves around his head.
But it wasn't enough to stop his chills.
I climbed on the bed and threw my body over him, hugging him through the thick sheets, my panic worsening as his body continued to tremble involuntarily beneath me.
A horrible memory flashed through my mind, reminding me of that night in the cave where Luca was unconscious and had the same symptoms of fever and shivering.
