I didn't want today to be any different than normal. It wasn't even certain that today was the exact day after having lost count, but Luca still wanted to celebrate my birthday.
We had a picnic in the meadow by the waterfall. Luca had prepared it beforehand because when we got there, a blanket was already laid on the moss with a covered basket on top of it.
"Happy birthday, Lena," he said, whipping out a bunch of lilies of the valley.
I accepted the bouquet and shoved it under my nose, inhaling deeply. "Thank you, Luca!"
He looked away, almost embarrassed. "I also made something for you. Well, I tried to. It's not the real thing, but close enough, I think…"
I smiled as I uncovered the cloth from the basket. It took me a moment to realize what was inside, or what it was supposed to be, but I squealed with delight as soon as I did.
