Chapter 1 - 1. Debt

It was 10PM, a somewhat handsome male aged 20 was just clocking out from the local 14/22. Chris had little to think about when exiting his part-time job at the convenient store. His brain could think of only two things: debt, and homework. To him it felt like everyday was going through the same motion, lacking of substance, and packed with filler. He had just arrived at the bus stop, which was his usual mode of transportation as a broke college student. Chris scrolled through his phone and remembered he had to get one more print source for his upcoming essay in his Ancient Literature class.

...

The bus has arrived at his school, M College, which was a small, low-achieving university located in New Vork City. Stepping off the bus Chris headed straight to the library. Entering the library, Chris was greeted by his friend John who worked there for some extra pocket change. Chris had a look of depression on his face, John, noticing, cracked a remark saying," Is that old witch from Literature making you write another huge essay." Chris looked up and cracked a small smile but it was quickly overshadowed by a look of grief.

Moving towards the historical literature section of the library a book stood out to Chris. It looked out of place with its significant sign of aging and it being leather bound. Chris walked up to it and read what was written on the outside of the book.

"Remember?"

After letting out a small chuckle, Chris thought to himself," What a weird name for a book this old." He quickly flipped over the book and opened to the back. He was checking for the check in/out card in the back, which every book in their library had. Funnily enough, the book lacked a card and seemed to have weird writing on the back, but it was sadly smeared and unreadable.

Chris flipped through the book and felt what seemed to be a bookmark. He quickly turned to the page that he felt contained it. Suddenly he saw a fierce color of red. It turned out to be some sort of envelope stuck to the inside of the book.

Curious, Chris opened the envelope and viewed the contents of it. Inside was a small piece of paper. Chris read the paper which stated:

"Anything that can be remembered, must first be forgotten."

After reading this, Chris felt a sudden shock. A floodgate had opened in his mind. Rapidly, waves of memories churned over and Chris felt overwhelmed. He couldn't pinpoint any of the memories, they were flying by him, like a single piece of film on a strip to make a movie. None of them were understandable, and certainly were confusing. After this wave had subsided something appeared in front of his face.

It was something he had read about in web novels, and seen in web toons. It was a blue computer screen that stated:
