Chapter 1 - A short story

Let me tell you all about how I met Kassidy; Kassidy my lover. The one I never thought I could love this much for. My once secret admirer...my lover.

I am Ebony, born December 12, 1996. I am sagittarius. You already know what that comes with. But unlike the stereotype about we fleeing from commitment, I love to dive towards it.

I hadn't been in a relationship for three years before I decided to join one in January of 2022. I have had several dates which never worked out and people (men) I have put on hold cause I didn't find them attractive...but... I wanted someone serious enough for my life, even though I was not ready to be married... then.

And that was where Kassidy came in. The man who showed me what it felt like to be treated like a woman—a queen. A man in his prime.

I am Ebony, a 26 year old, who lives alone in Southman city.

In the year 2021, November 14, I walked the street of Anthony, looking for the street vendors that sold adaptor for my charger head. On getting there, they told me they didn't have any in custody and therefore directed me to a new computer world that opened just beside the bank close to the adjoining streets. I was asked to inquire from there instead, they should have it.

So I thanked them, smiled at them cause they knew me a lot there. I was infamous for changing charging cords and charger heads like underwear in a day. Not my fault cause the power supply always brought in high voltage which always left my cords or charger heads affected. Sometimes, I end up buying fake ones which had gotten me annoyed countless times. I am sorry. I am not very good at pricing goods in the market and also not good at knowing what is fake and what isn't.

I was also known for coming out to purchase pork meat almost every night and was also known as the girl who rarely smiled at people. I was exhausted. I always told them my face was made like that, they needed to see my brothers. That...was my resting face. (ب_ب)

Where I was now walking by was a major road. Just like every other major road, it was crammed with different vehicles, each driver having an impatience to get home or wherever they were going. They were bustling the road with different intonations of car horns and hunks. Some cussing at others for driving slowly. I was used to this. My only aim was to get my adaptor and return home.

I now walked past the pharmacy that was after the bank. Just few meters away stood a new mounted sign board that said "BRAINY COMPUTERS". (This must be the place.) I thought.

I walked past the opened protector gate that led to the main office; it was opened.

The reception was an open space with two long ox-blood couches by my right hand side, where customers were asked to wait... and another long table by a corner with computer and laptop parts put asunder. Other than that table, the rest of the office was neat.

Facing me directly was a young man between the age of 22-26 seated on a chair at a desk which seemed to be the secretary desk. He was fair, wearing a white short sleeve shirt. I couldn't see his lower half, it was covered by the table.

I walked up to him and sparked a conversation.

"Good afternoon." I said.

"Good afternoon."

I looked farther into the office, there was a different section where laptops of different sizes were shaded with laptop charges and monitors. There were also some printers and photocopying machines in it.

Also in that sector stood three men, the fair one was the shortest among them while the dark men stood tall at 6 ft 4. I couldn't hear their conversation, but I caught one looking at me.

I turned back to the secretary and said, "Please, I was wondering if you guys sell adapter." I asked because my short scan by the other sector already gave me an insight that it wasn't available in this office.

The young man looked up at me from his phone and said, "I don't know. You can ask my boss who is inside."

I looked at the three men talking, wondering who the boss was. "Who...is your boss?" I asked him.

"Just go in and ask. He will attend to you."

I was pissed to an extent. Because, as a secretary, he should at least direct me to the boss by telling me if he was the one wearing white, yellow or red.

I walked shyly with the confidence I have learned to muster so people won't perceive me as an easy person to fool. I stood at the door to the second sector and interrupted their conversation. "Excuse me please."

They all looked at me. I faked a smile.

"Good afternoon everyone."

"Good afternoon." They all answered.

"Please... I was wondering if you sell adapter."

I looked at all their faces, I didn't know who the boss was.

But the other two looked at the one wearing a red shirt who I caught staring at me when I entered. "Do you sell adapter?" The short fair one asked.

Kassidy (the man in red, the boss) looked over at me. "What kind of adapter are you looking for?"

I tried describing it to him and gave up halfway through. I just picked my phone from my bag and searched the picture of what I wanted on the internet and showed it to him. He nodded and told me to sit on a couch which was by the door. The other two people there with him were customers and were there to purchase a laptop.

This period got me fuming. Kassidy kept me in the store for close to an hour in which I was getting frustrated but was just trying to be a nice person. I looked at him with a little anger on my face to pass a message. "I just need an adapter. If you guys don't have it, just tell me let me go somewhere else." I told him.

He was very calm in his reply, which I later found out was his demeanor in general as a person. He has the ability to maintain an aloof facial expression no matter what he was feeling. Whether he was horny, or whether he is angry, or if he is sad... the only exception is that he smiles a lot when he is happy. And it made him glow.

This time, his expression was unfazed. He looked at me while running the system for the customers and asked me to exercise patience a little more. He would get it for me.

About ten more minutes later, the customers left with their laptops in their bags, leaving me and Kassidy in the second sector.

Kassidy asked his secretary to bring and adapter charger...the head. A head without a cord and he sat in front of me trying to connect wires together.

I was irate at this point! While I was boiling inside, my motto was "never relent to show kindness" and I was living by it. So I calmed myself, looked at the adaptor head, it looked stronger than the one I wanted to purchase so this could work. I decided to give it a try.

When he was son connecting the wires, he added a Sellotape to the exposed wire and handed it to me.

I took it.

"You can try it to see if it works." He said.

I was no longer fuming, I decided to look at it from a positive point of view. Afterall, my zodiac is known to be optimistic. "So," I began, "you didn't have the adaptor I was looking for?" I asked.

He stood up. "Just try this. It will be stronger. And take my number. If it works, message me. If it doesn't, still call me to tell me so. Alright?"

I nodded. This could work.

I collected his number and saved it. I asked him hoe much was the adaptor, he called 2500 but I ended up giving him 1500 and then left his store.

I got home that evening and tested the charger, it didn't work. I picked up my phone immediately and sent him a direct message (THE ADAPTOR DIDN'T WORK. I WILL RETURN IT TOMORROW AND COLLECT MY MONEY).

He replied twenty minutes later saying (NO PROBLEM. JUST BRING IT TO MY STORE TOMORROW.)

I read the message and didn't reply.

When the next day reached, I picked the adaptor and walked to his office. He wasn't around. Just the secretary was there. I dropped the adaptor with him and told him I will pass by later in the evening to collect my money since Kassidy was not present.

The secretary nodded and I left with that.

My dear readers, I got to the store that evening and it was locked. When I tell you I was fuming! The nerves of them!

I picked up my phone and dialled his number, he didn't pick and that guys made him a bad person in my eyes.

Kassidy...

I laugh cause guys... it was all a plan in this brainbox's head. Since the moment he saw me, he was sketching a plan on how to make a long term conversation. It worked. Damn! It did! But that would be story for another day.

Where I am at now, you won't believe.

I am at the back seat of his car. His brother sitting beside him in the passenger's seat, I sit behind his brother in the back seat of his Camry with his brother's girlfriend who is a 5ft 3 inches fair girl with a cheap ass wig on her head. It was begging for mercy to be free. The edges were worn out. But who am I to judge? No one. So I am going to mind my business.

This wasn't the first time to be outside with Kassidy. Before now, he had called me some time back last year to ask if I was around, I told him no. I wasn't. I travelled to my hometown for the festivities. He said okay.

When I got back, he messaged again and I told him yes, I was back.

Let me tell you guys, I was always putting off any advances from male. But my new year's resolution was to give chances to people and made sure I got a boyfriend this year.

The sad part was that I made an awful decision at the beginning of the year. I accepted to do a long distant relationship with someone back home. I told him it wasn't going to work but I still accepted to be his girlfriend. And I had sex with him. Bad? Yes I know. But I am also in the time of my life where I give zero fucks.

Kassidy asked me to come out at about 7:14pm (which was already a late hour for me). He was stuck in a car wash. He asked me to take a bus that led to the bus stop, he would pay my transportation. I don't allude to that. I make sure I carry enough money with me when going out so I don't become stranded with awful men.

I picked up my knicker, put it on. Picked my pink hoodie and my white sneakers. I am not a bag person, so I put my phone in my knocker's pocket, placed my money in the other and took a bus to the car wash which was like a seven minutes ride from my house.

I got to the car wash and he waved to me. There was a bar there and that was where he was seated waiting for his car to be done washing.

I took a seat beside him and he asked me what I wanted to drink, I told him I was okay with malt cause I just ate.

He ordered malt for me. He wasn't drinking though. He only had a bottle water in front of him.

What he did next though took me by surprise. He opened his bag and brought out a cigar. He looked at me, "Hope you don't mind? I smoke."

I shook my head. "I don't." I said. "You are free to." I wasn't shocked by the fact that he smokes, I was more shocked that our first meet up ever, he was confident enough to show me he smoked. That was a plus for me. The honesty was crucial and he earned it. I smiled and took a sip from my malt while the smoke of his cigar waved past my face.
