Clarisse pressed on her phone’s screen to open the message. The number it came from was unregistered, so she couldn’t tell who it came from. Reading the message it contained, she felt her whole body go numb until all that was left was the irrepressible terror of what she just read.
*KNOCK* *KNOCK*
“Luna Clarisse, the Crown Prince has sent us to help you prepare for the day. May we come in?”
Clarisse heard the maids call out her name, but she didn’t even pay attention. She reread the message again, and just as the first time, terror enveloped her body. She couldn’t believe what she just read.
‘But could it be real? Or is it just a bluff to make me come home?’ she wondered.
“Luna Clarisse? May we come in?”
It was another maid that spoke this time. Clarisse snapped out of her trance, and tried to hide the panic in her face. Glancing at her reflection on the mirror, she heaved a long sigh and then replied to the maids.
“Yes, you may come in.”
