It's not everyday that I get an opportunity to do something I
genuinely believe could make a real difference. This is it for me
– this artist guide. I have always wanted to say something that
could stir an eagerness to learn about this entertainment
business in all these incredibly talented artists. So often artists
go into all this music business head first without a thought or care
about the consequences of their actions by commission or
omission. It just seems like the Wild Wild West out here and
young dreams are often devoured by predatory promoters or
dubious culture vultures. I wanted to write something from my
experience as a music producer, artist, content creator and radio
deejay. I wanted to write from an intimate point of view but what
I ended up with may be something more. What started out as a
labour of love, alone in my thoughts, through various interactions
with so many artists has become a tidal wave of emotion and
sometimes heated debate; debate about presumed sabotage
and moving goal posts; accusations of payola and favouritism. A
lot of artists I spoke to are not just feeling short changed by the
system anymore, a lot of them are really angry!
