Chapter 19 - Two Years Later

The saddest part which she tried so hard not to think about was the fact that she couldn't go back to college, at some point, she would just sit back and think about the future they might have gotten if she had completed her studies.

Regardless of the situation, she didn't allow it to weigh on her, because she was just as happy, her mother was doing fine, her job at the supermarket and the restaurant was going well and most importantly, her mother's condition was okay.

Over the years, Audrey had been too busy to contact the girls, except for a couple of times, when they called to check up on her and her mother, One of which was their graduation. The girls were torn between telling her about it and not telling her about it, they didn't want her to feel left out, and they didn't want her to hear it from another person.

After what they considered careful consideration, they decided not to tell her about it, because they didn't want her to feel left out, in their defense they cared about her and they knew it was just going to hurt her feelings.

The girls' agendas didn't go as planned, as Audrey had come across one of her former dorm mates when she was going to get groceries one day. Audrey was self-conscious when she sighted Stella.

Back when she was in college, still a had been the biggest gossip on campus, she had even gotten in trouble a few times because she was invasive of people's privacy.

Audrey didn't want Stella to see her, as she was sure she was going to tell everybody what had happened to her, of course, she was disgraced but she didn't want Stella spreading fake news.

However, it seemed Audrey had a little bit of bad luck as Stella saw her when she was trying to walk past her. Feigning surprise Audrey exclaimed," Stella, it's been so long, how are you!", "I've been very good," Stella said before they continued their conversation, Stella asking most of the questions while Audrey answered.

When it seemed the conversation was ending Stella said, "ohh come to our graduation, for old times' sake", " oh okay", Audrey said. She was a little bit shocked that the girls hadn't said anything about it.

She didn't want to confront the girls about it, she assumed they had too much to do that they must have forgotten to tell her.

Audrey didn't want to go to the graduation at first which was out of jealousy, but after several talks with her mother, she decided to go as a sign of support, to show she wasn't against them.

However, she was saddened by what she saw, instead of the girls being more friendly, they were surprised to see her, she wasn't expecting their welcome. That must have been the start of their separation.

The girls had started as roommates, then friends, then best friends, and their friendship just started dwindling, not even with Audrey, but all of them, Fate just had other plans for the girls.

On the other hand, Prisca seemed to be closer to Audrey, they had more things connecting them. Anytime Prisca had a job outside of the restaurant, they would go together.

All they had to do was work as bartenders, waitresses, or ushers at events. It paid relatively more and it was a big help for the girls, most especially Audrey.

Georgia's cancer didn't seem like a bother to the ladies anymore, except for the fees they had to pay when it came to chemo shots. The two years that passed were good for Audrey, and she appreciated that even though it wasn't what she was expecting, she and her mother were happy.

However, the most appalling part for Audrey was Leo's affections, she didn't have any experience with guys but she wasn't stupid either, she didn't need anybody to tell her that he had feelings for her.

Over the years he would ask her to go out with him or spend time with him one way or the other. She didn't need anybody to tell her that he was asking her on dates, she would either politely deny his request or avoid him.

Leo gave her so much attention that the other staff noticed, especially the female staff who gossiped about Audrey, just because Leo didn't give them the same attention.

Leo was angered when he found out about this, the best solution he could come up with was to distance himself from Audrey. He would silently gawk at how beautiful she was through the pictures he had secretly taken while she wasn't paying attention.

At some point, Leo found out he was in love with her, he was sure he loved her so much, but the painful part was she didn't love him the way he did. He was fine with it though, he was happy just seeing her every day.
