"No," I groan as I stand. My back pops a little when I stretch. "But what I said was mean, and I didn't want to hurt your feelings. I'm scared. Scared of the future, scared of you. Scared I'll never have kids. Scared I will have kids. Anyways, it was cruddy to say those things to you, and I'm sorry."
"Sorry?"
"Yeah, sorry. I figured we could at least part on good terms."
His enormous mouth tips downward into a frown.
"Sorry won't save you."
"It's not supposed to. An apology where you expect to get something in return isn't a real apology."
"Isn't a real...are youserious?"
"You can see the future, right? So you know I am."
His gaze goes wonky again. His eyes comb over me, each of them moving independently.
Then he laughs.
"Goodbye, Lola Robinson. You're brave. I won't interfere with your children, nor will I give you powers like those of the rest of the clan."
I shrug.
"Fair. Do you need anything before I go? Some food or…you know snacks?"
