Half an incense stick later...
Ling Feng and Ling Yue were practically exhausted from their 'travel' to the Tian Xuan Emperor. By now, they were gasping at intervals and their faces were pale, but their eyes remained brilliant. Just then, they both stopped and looked ahead before exchanging gazes.
Ahead, there was a compact space of towering mountain peaks made of refined glass. The glass at the mountain tops absorbed the energy from the sun and the moon, making this particular space quite special. The entire space was like the solar system with a never ending cycle of light.
"Master... Disciple needs your help" Ling Yue knelt down and spoke solemnly. Her pale face revealed a trickle of tear. Her voice was light but it was magnified through air currents.
WHEESSH!
The echo of her voice lingered on but she got no response to her plea. The space was calm and there wasn't even the imperial might belonging to the Emperor Realm experts. Emperor Tian Xuan was her last resort and after witnessing this sort of incident, Ling Yue's heart had nearly shattered.
"There's obviously something wrong here..." Ling Feng frowned with his brows furrowed tightly. His hand patted on his sister lightly to calm her weak heart down from trauma. Ling Yue bit hard onto her lips and looked towards Ling Feng while her nails dug into her flesh with unwillingness.
All this time, the Dark Sovereign had remained invincible in his conquest to refine the Azure Thunder Continent. Though they were unwilling to admit this fact, but they knew that something big must have happened to the emperor.
Usually, the Heavenly Profound Saint Emperor would rarely leave the Sacred Enlightened Temple even when the Azure Thunder Continent was at peace. Presently, the times were even more riotous due to the conquest of the Dark Sovereign. The Heavenly Profound Saint Emperor would never endanger the lives of the Sacred Enlightened Peak's disciples.
"Let's go in, we might possibly gain a clue" Ling Feng was more curious so he took the lead for them to head in.
Before long, the two arrived at the doors of the Enlightened Saint Temple. The two immediately reached out to open the gates of the temple.
KABOOM!
At the slightest touch, the gates of the Enlightened Saint Temple shattered completely. The two were stunned by the destructive energy sealed in the cave and they could smell a familiar floral aura. Ling Feng's expression turned even more solemn and cautious.
HUFF!
A fierce wind assaulted their faces leading to a reflex to shrink their eyelids.
"Pss!"
Both of them sucked in a cold breath as the sight that greeted them was printed in the depths of their soul.
So bloody!
It was a gruesome scene, an unearthed purgatory that could last for eternity. There was the reeking stench of blood, the sight of battered organs, the gushing brain juice, the look of horrror preceding death. All sorts of awful sights anyone could be imagine welcomed their gazes first.
"AHH!"
Despite being a Half Saint, Ling Yue couldn't help but scream in terror, after all her state of heart couldn't really match up her cultivation, she was still a little girl at the end of the day. Not only her, any other martial artist would be horror stricken and nauseous at this sort of eerie sight. As she screamed, she subconsciously fell into Ling Feng's arms quibbling in tears.
The dead persons here were her fellow disciples in the Enlightened Saint Temple. Although they might not have met physically, they were still a part of her home and she could not imagine such inhumane hands that could instigate this. The Dark Sovereign was the key player to the entire mishap that had been going on for the last decade.
To a key villain as such, it didn't matter how many lives were sacrificed or how much blood was shed. The only important to such scheming entity was to achieve their missions. Like the present scene, Saint Emperor Tian Xuan and the Enlightened Saint Temple were 'weeds' on the path to conquering the Azure Thunder Continent. It was only natural for them to be uprooted for him to succeed.
"Damn"
Ling Feng cursed solemnly as well as he beheld the current scene. This sort of thing had gone beyond just flattening, it was a deterrent warning to the other unyielding forces like the Enlightened Saint Temple.
It could be seen from the torturous and inhumane treatment rendered to the disciples of the Temple. Ling Yue was quite pitiful and weak-hearted as she incessantly sobbed in pain. Ling Feng, on the other hand was only mute, but he grasped onto his sister's hands firmly.
At this point, it was truly confirmed that a terrible disaster had befallen the entire Enlightened Saint Temple. As they passed along the way, there were variant classes of corpses on the ground. The outer, inner, core, direct disciples littered the entire place.
The hundreds of elders lay dead as well and their expressions were no different from the true disciples. There existed a pattern of shock in the eyes of those who had died. It was as if they were attacked by the force they least expected and they had been slain under lowered guards.
If the true manpower and military of the Enlightened Saint Temple was mobilized, they surely wouldn't have ended up in such a miserable state. For some reason, the temple seemed to have truly fallen out of luck.
Ling Yue could not still accept this fact and after a long moment of wailing, she braved up to Ling Feng.
"Big brother Feng... I believe master has an explanation for this... he should at least know something" Ling Yue spoke in a rigid tone. Ling Feng saw through his sister's thoughts and shook his head pitifully.
"Little Yue has really suffered..."
Ling Feng muttered inwardly with a sigh as he followed his sister through the skies to a secluded path.
