It's been a week now since Uehara had fallen unconscious. Back in his mindscape, Volkarin was giving him a few pointers. But from the way he was talking, it was clear he was still displeased with the way Uehara gambled with his life.
"I wanted to wait until you reach the 1st Gate before I teach you a few more things but it's clear you're more impulsive than my grandfather."
A massive one-metre long scroll appeared in the air.
"Take it and open it."
As the scroll floated over to Uehara, he grabbed it. Placing it down on the grass, he opened it and what he saw shocked him greatly. Written in bold, there were nine names on the scroll and yet each of those names gave Uehara a deep sense of fear. The names were as follows:
1. Chaos Warhound- Beimura
2. Chaos Ox- Dumara
3. Chaos Phoenix- Homura
4. Chaos Slime- Simara
5. Chaos Tiger- Hozura
6. Chaos Cobra- Mizura
7. Chaos Warthog- Demora
8. Chaos Dragon- Raimura
9. Chaos Titan- Godura
Seeing the names written in surinese and sensing the powerful intent contained within those names, he calmed his voice and asked.
"What is this, father?"
"These, my son, are my summons. These are all the entities I have faced, defeated and made into my summons."
He took the scroll.
"But these are my summons, not yours. The purpose of today is to teach you how to make an entity your summon."
When the scroll vanished from the ground, Volkarin brought his palms together and looked at Uehara with a serious gaze.
"I'll teach you how to get a summon soon but I want you to ingrain into your mind what I'm about to tell you.
Rule number 1. If you want to get a summon, it must yield to you so it is important that you are the one that makes it yield. That means no one must help you in anyway. You must prove yourself in a one-on-one.
Rule number 2. You must have a contract scroll that will allow you to bind the entity to you, like the one I have. I will teach you how to make one later.
Rule number 3. You must make whatever entity you want to contract truly yield without any doubts in its heart that it lost. This part is very important as it guarantees future loyalty. This applies much more to demons as they value their pride more so if you used poison or some other insidious method, then that demon or entity will never truly submit to you.
Rule number 4. Absolutely no one wants to yield to a weakling. Whether it be in mind, heart or soul, you must always remain strong and continue growing stronger. A summon can at most be slightly weaker than you. Having a summon that is stronger than you will be considered a disgrace and the summon will be able to loosen, if not break, the contract binding it to you.
Rule number 5. Always treat your summons with respect. The last thing you need is a blade coming at you from behind. Even if the summon hates you, as long as it respects you, it will never betray you.
Rule number 6. Understand and protect your summons. Since it may be of a different species, it will have different needs. It is considered disgraceful if a summon suffers or dies under your care.
Rule number 7: Their power, is your power. Don't deny your summons an opportunity to grow stronger. If you're worried that they'll grow stronger than you, then you shouldn't have taken a summon in the first place."
If you keep these rules my son, you shall never fear betrayal from your summons and they'll always be loyal to you."
"Yes, father. I understand."
The scroll then disappeared into thin air.
"If I want to teach you how to summon, I will first have to teach you a set of hand signs that every young surin has to know."
Uehara was confused because he remembered his father telling him not to be dependent on hand signs but he kept quiet and waited for Volkarin to continue. Volkarin naturally saw the minute trace of confusion in his eyes and so chose to explain.
"The technique I'm about to teach you is advanced so you will need hand-signs, unless you are prepared to stand still in combat for a minute to focus your chakra?"
"No, father."
"Good. Now listen and observe closely."
Volkarin taught Uehara each of the twelve hand signs of the zodiac while also giving him a simple description of how they functioned. The basic rundown was like this.
1. Bird
a) Focuses on Air
2. Rabbit
a) Focuses on Sound
3. Dog
a) Focuses on Water
4. Goat
a) Focuses on Temperature
5. Ox
a) Focuses on Earth
6. Rat
a) Focuses on Gravity
7. Tiger
a) Focuses on Fire
8. Dragon
a) Focuses on Lightning
9. Horse
a) Focuses on Light
10. Snake
a) Focuses on Darkness
11. Monkey
a) Focuses on Concepts
12. Pig
a) Focuses on Fusion
"Have you memorised them?"
"Yes father."
"Good. Now I will explain them to you. As you've seen, the first ten hand-signs focus on all the four basic elements and their four deviants as well the two conceptual elements. The last two hand-signs are a bit special."
Ten orbs formed from the ten elements circulated around Volkarin.
"Every element has its own numerous concepts that fall under it. Air has the concept of speed, water has adaptability, earth has strength and fire has chaos. Those concepts I just named are just one of the few main concepts that are associated with each element. The purpose of the monkey hand-sign is to be able to take a concept from an element without using the element itself or to fuse with another element."
Seeing how Uehara was not fully understanding, he chose to make an example.
"Let's make an example with a body-strengthening technique. The basic hand-signs for such a technique would be Monkey, Ox and Pig. That would mean Concept, Earth and Fusion. You would be taking the 'strength' concept from earth and fusing it with your body. If you wanted to just manipulate the earth, you would make the hand-sign for Ox while channeling your chakra and using your imagination to manipulate the earth as you wish. Pig, the hand-sign for fusion is very simple. You will only use the pig hand-sign in two ways. The first is non-physical, only applying if you are going to be taking the concept of an element and applying a technique on yourself, the area around you or another person. An example would be a body-strengthening technique on yourself, a barrier that will heal whoever is inside or an illusion on your opponent. Another way to use the pig hand-sign is the physical way, which is fusing two or more elements, that you failed to do."
Uehara looked down in shame. Volkarin kept wanting to beat him whenever he thought about how he nearly lost his son, not in an honourable battle, but because of a stupid mistake like failing to fuse two elements.
Shoving down his rage, he continued.
"If I were to use an attack that combines lightning and water, it would be Dragon, Dog and Pig. If I were to use a self-strengthening technique where I wanted to use lightning's concept of 'speed' to boost my nerves and water's concept of 'healing' to maintain my body, the hand-signs would be Monkey, Dragon, Monkey, Dog and Pig. That means Concept, Lightning (speed), Concept, Water (healing) and Fusion. Remember that the monkey (concept) hand-sign only applies if you're going to be taking certain concepts from an element. If you don't use the monkey hand-sign, you will be taking everything about the element. For example."
Volkarin aligned his palms together.
"Dragon-Dog-Pig. Shock Tsunami."
Waves of water crackling with lightning formed in front of him and stretched forward, reaching a staggering five-hundred metres in height. The tsunami covered the hectares of the plain and lightning crackles could clearly be seen with the naked eye.
"Now, watch again."
Clasping his hands together, Volkarin began weaving.
"Monkey-Dragon-Dog-Pig. Burst Tsunami."
Waves of water formed under him again but this time, the tsunami moved forward at least three times faster than before.
Seeing Uehara's widened gaze, Volkaring began to explain.
"By weaving monkey before dragon, I took only the speed concept of lightning. Do you understand?"
"Yes father. I completely understand now."
The ten orbs that were surrounding Volkarin dissipated.
"You have one week to memorise all the hand-signs. If I'm satisfied with your progress, I'll teach you the summoning hand-signs."
"Yes, father."
Uehara walked away to go practice by himself but before he could get far, Volkarin called out.
"Son. Don't worry too much about concepts and fusions. As long as you know the basics, everything else will come naturally."
"Yes, father. This son has listened and understood."
He bowed slowly and then turned around to walk away, a trace of determination in his eyes.
[I was getting too conceited and disappointed father. I am the son of the chaos god. I cannot embarrass father like this ever again.]
