I woke up this morning and stared at the ceiling, wondering…what's the fucking point? I rolled over and went back to sleep.
A few hours later, Gene entered like he usually does, but his demeanor changed. There was no half-assed scolding or subtle jabs at my behavior, no nagging, and not even a hint of teasing. He just walked in, left my food, and walked back out.
Once he was gone, I glanced at the meal he had prepared for me before deciding to skip breakfast. I wasn't hungry. All I wanted to do was sleep, and so I slept.
Like in the morning, Gene entered my room to bring my lunch. However, this time, he couldn't hold it in.
"You need to eat." Gene nagged.
"I will." I lied.
