I stare at Gene as silent tears trickle down his flushed cheeks.
"Gene…" I begin to say before I stop myself.
God only knows what will happen if I speak right now. King Lao might not target me if he keeps seeing me act emotional every time someone gets hurt. He'll target others to get me to be obedient.
"Gene, tell me the truth now, or the next thing I break will be your skull." King Lao threatens.
Gene wipes away his tears before staring directly into King Lao's eyes.

"I was in the abandoned section of the castle." I blurt out, interrupting Gene before he can get himself killed.
