"I would like to go and see the city. Can't I?" I asked Gene if he had prepared my breakfast.
"No," Gene says firmly.
I stare at Gene, hoping for an explanation. He ignores me. Yeah, I didn't think it would be that easy, but I thought he would give me an excuse. Maybe he knows I'll try to talk him into it so he isn't saying anything.
"Hm, I just wanted to see our capital. You know I was in a hospital bed most of my life. I only saw the city when I was brought here through the window of a car. Shouldn't I get to know the place I'm going to rule over one day?" I ask.
Gene turns to me and looks me straight in the eyes.
"You know it's not up to me." Gene's tone seems empathetic.
"I know; I thought that you might be able to talk to King Lao and convince him. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked." I say as I begin to eat my breakfast.
