"Dr. Monroe is of noble birth. He's not directly related to the king, but his family is of high standing in Kervini. Dr. Monroe and King Lao attended the same private noble high school together, which is how they became friends. After becoming well-known in his field, Dr. Monroe was going to open his research facility, but King Lao bribed him to join his cause instead.
