"Come to me, my child, and the world will be yours. Come to me, and let me show you the powers you possess. Come to me, and let us conquer our foes together. Come to me, my child, and immortality will be your future."
Death hath no bounds.
Immortality. A funny word that means to live forever, to never die. Most people associate it with their deepest fantasies, or they simply never want to see the inside of a coffin. Unfortunately, for most, that is all it will ever be. A fantasy. A dream that will forever be unattainable, living on in their minds as the clock ticks down their mortal lives. I, on the other hand, wasn't so lucky. Having gone down some wrong turns, and falling in love with a woman who I can never be with, I bought myself eternal life.
I know it sounds like I hit the jackpot because of the eternal life part, but it's not so simple. From the day I stepped foot in New York City, I was damned. In a new place, I was trying to fit in, and now here I sit, an eternal bodyguard created to fight and protect my Goddess, Artemis, for all time. I live in an unimaginable hell, and life only grows darker as the centuries carry on.
I've begged for death on multiple occasions, and suffice it to say, I never got my wish. My Goddess refuses to release me of my torment, so I live this cursed life with an ever-growing ulcer, burning my insides. She keeps me at her side like a dog, ready to answer every beck and call. What a piss poor way to live. A life of fighting, blood drinking, and long nights has made me regret the day that I stepped foot into that party all those years ago.
Fate had a sick sense of humor. Toying and playing with us just because it could. The joke of eternity, I might add. Once your fate has been inscribed, there's no undoing it. You can try to fight it, run from it, and even hide, but one day it's going to grab you by the balls and send you for a whirlwind.
Some days I curse Artemis, but even after the hell she has brought upon me, I still love her. My feelings, desires, and need for companionship may not always be reciprocated to the fullest, but I still devote myself to her like a mother with a newborn baby. I fight for her and I suffer for her, but this is my life. My name is Beau Hayes, and this is the story of how I became an immortal warrior of the shadows because of a fated accident. A path I was destined to walk to stop the end of the world.
