Ryder's Pov
When Kales car came into view I looked at my watch and was very impressed that he had actually shown up when he had said. Kale was notorious for loosing track of time ang being late for everything. It pulled into the driveway and I noticed that a silhouette of a girl was also in the car. The girl out of my buddy Kale's car and hid her face in her long beautiful chestnut hair. At that time she walked up to the stairs, I saw tear stains on her cheek and I started to wonder how much she had lost to have to be here. She walked into the house without a word in Ewan or I's direction. I only knew the basics that Kale had told me but I felt like the world was changing around me and there was no way that anyone could change fate. Kale walked over to us while I was lost in thought. That girl was just so captivating. I couldn't get her out of my mind and I had just watched her walk past us.
"Don't even think about it Ryder" Kale gave me the look. I hated that my best friend knew everything about me and could tell when I was wrapped up in my own thoughts. No girl has made me so captivated in such a short amount of time, especially one that looked so broken. I just wanted to keep her safe and happy. If it meant being her friend then I could definitely do that. If it was something more we could cross that bridge when we got there because just thinking about her made me realize that we wouldn't be just friends. I wanted more but she wasn't ready for that yet. Friends was all we could be at this moment in time.
We walked into his house after a few words were said, to see that girl again, only this time she was sitting down with a soft smile playing on her lips. Max, Kale and LJ's dog was bouncing around chasing a chew toy that she had just thrown. He came back to her and nestled on her lap. Max hates everyone. Every time a person went a few feet in his direction he went into a fit of barks and growls. Even the people he did know still got the disapproving growl if they went in his space, and then this mysterious girl comes and he falls in love with her and lets her play with him without eating her hand off. No barks, no growls, just love and happiness. A side of this dog that I thought would only come out when he was parting with our world. Kale looked over at us and smiled at our shocked faces.
"Max has always loved Lucy whenever she comes over" Kale whispered. All animals seem to love her. I think he knows that she needs a little extra love sometimes because he makes a point to only shower her with love, as well as showing everyone else his ugly side if they try and harm her. The only thing that Max loves more than himself is her. He wouldn't blink twice to harm any of us if we hurt her.
"Lucy, this is Ryder and Ewan, my best friends," Kale said with a smile. Her lovely eyes looked up and stayed on me for a second too long before moving on. Even though she wasn't ready yet she could still feel our connection. I wasn't going crazy, she was going to be mine one day.
She looked down at Max again and started to rub his belly. He playfully started licking her face and hands. The sides of her mouth turned up into a beautiful small smile. Kale and LJ started to go downstairs with her bags and I jumped to help. Her room was the one downstairs right beside the little living room where we play video games. She would always be close to me in some way or another. Somehow I knew this small moment would change everything.
The next day morning when I woke up I realized that I had a dream last night. It was about me and Lucy and our future together. We had been in our own home with two little boys running around wreaking havoc like I knew I had once done for my parents.
I got out of bed with a smile on my face. The next thing I know is my human alarm clock was running in with a little princess dress on. My 5 year old little sister jumps into my arms with her big toothy smile. She was definitely my light in the darkness.
My parents were never home anymore so it was like our house and all I had to pay for was the food and gifts for Bella of course. She was my life after all. Most kids my age would have hatted always having to take care of their little siblings, but I didn't mind. In reality she took care of me more than I did for her. Keeping me in line and never letting me leave without doing my homework or giving her an extra hug. I didn't have a lot of things to be thankful for but she was one of my biggest things.
I put her down and walked down the hall to the kitchen to make her pancakes. After breakfast, I took her to daycare and gave her a big hug, then left for school. When I got out of the car the gang was waiting for me.
Gang: LJ, Kale, Ayla, Ewan, Porter, Tyra, Kylie, Lucy, and Zach
I walked up to them with a smile on my face ready to face the new week and cause lots of chaos.
