Chapter 3 - Preparing to leave behind Morals

2 hours had gone by since the Second World started, Cassius remained in the empty lecture hall as went over his rations.

"Alright… a Pringles can, 2 uncooked Instant Ramen, 3 Granola bars, and 2 water bottles," repeated Cassius to himself as he stared at the limited food in front of him. "Fuck… Maybe one day, but I can't survive a week on these resources."

Cassius then saw that his phone was low on battery and went to plug it in an outlet. His phone then began charging and realized that something important.

(We still have electricity.)

Cassius then pulled out his laptop and Portable charger and began charging them.

(I don't know if it will last so I need to secure as much as possible.)

Cassius then sat down and began memorizing the 10 basic rules to survive the Second World. He then realized that Rule 1 must be the biggest life saver.

"Shop," Commanded Cassius.

A screen appeared in front of him showing him, luxuries he could buy. Supplies such as food and waters were cheap, with his fame he could survive a month in this lecture hall. Cassius thought about it, but realized that there was still 2 events going around that prevented Cassius from having a peaceful death. Cassius then flipped to the next shop page and located items such as weapons and armor.

Before buying any weapon, Cassius realized that weapons and armor had requirements. It's not like he could buy a legendary weapon anyway. He had 2,500 Fame to his name and at best he could buy Adventurer's Sword that would cost him 2,000 Fame, but only increased his damage by 3 Strength. Cassius then scrolled to the next page and saw it was empty. He looked at the top and saw it said Trade Market. Obviously this would be where Players would trade among themselves. He scrolled to the final page and saw an interesting advertising.

This page sold lottery based products, one that took his interest was a shop selling pets. They were referred to as pets, but Cassius realized quickly that these things may be pets to Gods, but to humans, these were monsters. Cassius then scroll a bit further dow and saw that one of the available selection of pets were at an opening discount of 80% off. He saw only 3 discounts remained. He then the number drop to 1, and instantly tapped the buy option out of pressure of missing out.

"Shit…" Said Cassius as he realized that he just wasted 2,000 Fame.

He prayed that his pet was powerful, but as his pet incarnated in front of him he soon realized that he may have lost Fame. His pet finished incarnating and Cassius stared at the small creature in front of him.

[Slime]

[Level: 1]

[Monster type: Common]

[Unlike wild slimes, pet Slimes do the opposite and heal players.]

[1+ Healing for every minute the slime in on the Player.]

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

"This is a fucking joke." Said Cassius as he saw the slime crawl on him.

The Slime made it's way on top of Cassius's head and then perched itself inside of Cassius's hood.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

[Player will constantly receive 1+ Healing every minute.]

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

"I guess it's not so bad. Could be worse," Said Cassius as he accepted the slime as his pet. "You know what little guy, I'll call you Ali."

Cassius, didn't hear the slime do any noise.

"Guess you're not much of a talker… Damn it. I'm talking to a slime I just met. How pathetic." Said Cassius.

Cassius looked up and saw it was 2pm. He continued looking at the shop and looked at the items available and saw a weapon on the item shop that could help him. It would be an investment risk, but he needed everything to survive both the Zombies and the people outside the door.

(Guess this weapon will have to do for now.)

[Wooden Staff]

[+1 Strength]

[Not the best weapon and only has reach going for it.]

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Cassius had wasted the final of his Fame and was no left at 0 Fame. Cassius stood up and started practicing using the staff. He attempted spinning it, but failed. He tried practicing long distance stabbing in one hand, but again failed as he couldn't effectively hit the water bottles he set up as targets. Cassius didn't want to practice throwing the staff since anyone could use his weapon against him. Eventually Cassius learned that his one effective move would be using the staff with both hands side ways. Of course it was not good that he had only one effective move, but had no other choice but to use it.

Cassius picked up his rations and packed them into one bag and left behind all his school items to make room in one bag. He made sure that his slime was secured in his hood as he mentally prepared himself to accept the terms of this world. He removed everything that blocked the door one by one, but stopped as he wanted to see the remaining amount of students.

"Event!" Commanded Cassius but nothing appeared.

"Show event…" Commanded Cassius again to no result.

"I'm not reading that manual," Said Cassius as he awaited a response.

Nothing was happening, for the first time Cassius wanted a screen to appear. Cassius recalled the first rule and then attempted the most logical option left.

"Stats!" Commanded Cassius.

Suddenly the screen appeared again, to show Cassius's stats, but Cassius looked around the screen and saw an x, and a mail button. He looked at the mail button and saw what he wanted to see.

Last One Standing|

[Remaining Players: 8,103]

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Cassius realized that in the span of 2 hours, over 9 thousand students were killed. Cassius thought about the danger outside the door, but realized what lied behind him and what lied forward.

"If I stay, I'll remain weak. I'll betray my father. I'll lose hope. And I'll die," Said Cassius to himself as he took a deep breath. "But if I leave, I'll most likely die. Doesn't seem good for me… If I leave, I'll either lose my life or lose who I once was."

"I already have blood on my hands… I took the life of another because I wanted to live… He wanted to live too…"

Cassius looked at the desk in front of his that blocked the door as he took another deep breath.

"In the face of this danger, I'll either learn to survivor, or learn to become a killer."

Cassius then used all his might and pushed aside the desk as his eyes sharpened.

"And I plan to become both."
