"Okay," Iris said in defeat, as she stared at Cane's back. He returned shortly after he ordered someone to bring her food and medicine over, and sat down on the foot of the bed, away from her, this made Iris' heart sink. "Cane, I am sorry…" She put away the blanket and approached him. "What should I do for you not to be mad at me again?"
Cane said nothing. His jaw clenched tightly, but his eyes were fixed on Iris. He looked like he wanted to go off on her again, but in the end, he sighed deeply and pulled Iris into a hug. He rested his head on her shoulder, as he cradled her again like he did last night.
"I am sorry, my emotions are all over the place," Cane said. He breathed against her skin, filling his lungs with her scent. He saw how many warriors had fallen because he didn't expect Lady Cyan to pull such a scheme. He was blindsided and he felt he could do better. At the very least, he should have sensed it.
