As many new things were and are being discovered, people are scrambling to take advantage of them and make as many profits as possible.
Suddenly there was a major need for manpower, and since you can't force an increase in the population. The next best thing is golems and machines. It took the top experts 5 years to make a breakthrough in magical machine technology and make a working prototype that can follow simple commands. At that time the government built a second town next to a major mine that was discovered on the other side of the mountain range. The people, with the help of jackhammers and first-generation trucks that need to be manually operated built a road through a valley to the mining town.
Although it took the experts 5 years to make a prototype golem with some of my help they made significant discoveries in magical machinery during that time. Tractors, assembly lines, pipes, alternative power options etc.
The gnomes got their time to shine in the mining town, making jewelry, engraving, and enchanting. A factory was built to literally make more money. The technology used to make coins gave way to printing technology. Prices of books dropped significantly when I introduced paper as well.
Farms became industrialized with a lot fewer people in farms and more people in factories, mines, stores, adventuring, government, and the army. The shift is still ongoing as the prices for magical machines are still very high. With more food being produced and granaries being full the preservation of food was becoming an issue. I told my father just to stuff a bunch of food in a container and seal it airtight. Thus canned food was invented.
The people were becoming stronger day by day due to magic breathing, which is a technique used to accumulate mana when breathing, in other words without thinking about it. This allowed the people to become stronger by the day.
Eventually, people are going to have machines do everything for them while humans do the jobs that require a human touch. That day may be sooner than you might think.
The city is changing every day, new buildings are being built, and infrastructure is being improved. Plumbing, heating and air conditioning, clean water. Public transportation has become quite big in the city. Although there are not a lot of places people can go it is still quite a popular option when moving from the city to the mining town.
The population of the city is getting bigger day by day and people need places to stay. There are very few buildings over 3 stories tall, so when I introduced the idea of apartment buildings and the techniques to build larger and taller buildings the leaders were happy to approve the idea and get it started.
