While the scientist and his assistant were starting work on the formula of the World Mana, on the ninth day after the start of the experiment, the general staff of the Inquisition was notified of the scientist's disappearance. The most interesting thing is that his public laboratory was emptied, and people close to him do not know where he went. MagDest suspected the scientist of obscurantism and the presence of an underground laboratory, since all public experiments were controlled by the organization, they already suspected about the previous strange records in the pub. laboratory indicating suspicious activity that did not converge with public principles and rules.
Inquisitors were urgently called to search for evidence and the alleged location of the scientist, after the discovery of the scientist, he would simply be executed, and all records would be confiscated for storage in the capital's classified archives.
Fortunately, the secrecy of the underground laboratory was almost absolute, which would help buy time to develop a magical injection of the World Stream. That "almost" was not part of the scientist's plans. But more on that later.
- Holy saints! This completely changes the very concept of world energy...so, if the theory of the multilayer octagram is correct, then the possibility of such a magical variable function taking root is practically zero. Heck!
This meant that the maximum possible chances of the gene engraftment to the creature were equal to 0.5% for the most prepared creature. 0.5% this figure was the maximum according to the scientist's assessment and then strongly rounded to tenths and hundredths.
Meridian expansion is not an infinite phenomenon, as in many cultivators. There are logical limits to the physical shell. If we give an alternative, then the body is a "large circulating system", and the meridians are "pipes with warm water" pumping the whole body, creating "steam" - excess energy. All living beings have "pipes" made of the same material, so there is a limit to their expansion so that they do not "crack".
But 0.5%? Seriously? It's almost certain death. On the one hand, the scientist was afraid, not of death, but of losing everything that he could get for many years of theory and experiments. And on the other hand, everything was going by this moment, this was his main goal of life. And what if his precious works go to the archives of those terrible Inquisitors from MagDest? No, he definitely won't let that happen.
The scientist is introduced by the name Ivor. Call him that, not "scientist" or something else. So, he is not a scientist by his education, as was supposed, but a design engineer. After graduating from a simple university, he began to be interested in magical strays and arts, but the attitude towards the non-mage was, to put it mildly, bestial, which caused him some dissatisfaction. After a couple of years of theory, he was able to prove his importance to MagDest and get a research engineer license. It cost him incredible efforts, because many scientists, researchers and just innovators changing trends, tied their hands, blindfolded and they could not do anything except obediently obey MagDest.
Ivor was not satisfied with such a routine of affairs at all. He began to gradually form his little bulwark of hope among the gray mass. Using his skills as a design engineer, he was able to build some security mechanisms and even traps, in case of uninvited guests. Now he can feed magic rune traps with the First Mana. Even he was afraid to find himself in the dark corridors of a lost castle among some deadly traps. No one knew about his underground activities. For now.
The work continues.

Kil Mort is a pretty skilled student-trainee of combat magic, who was at the Institute. Already as the third year he has been in the Inquisition, he went to different points at will, on different tasks assigned by the MagDest council. At the age of twenty-three, he has earned a high rank and a certain trust within the Institute, commands one of the strongest detachments. Kil was arrogant, despising commoners and non-magicians, respects the forceful method of solving problems, sometimes does not think about the consequences when it comes to the lower ones.
The guy himself is the owner of red hair, and pitch-black eyes. A toned body was more of a necessity than a matter of aesthetics, because combat magicians had to conduct long sieges and assaults, which greatly affects endurance and internal mana reserve.
Today he arrived from a task to clean up the facility from obscurantists who were plotting to commit sabotage and terrorist attacks in important industrial points. I wanted to beat the crap out of fools by using my favorite fire fist. What could be more enjoyable than hand-to-hand combat? He would have answered - hand-to-hand combat with fire magic!
After completing the task, he came to the command and decided to report back.
- Glory to Deidar! Kil, in a dark red military uniform, saluted.
- At ease. It's worth thanking you, that group of saboteurs caused quite a lot of problems in that region, fortunately you solved the problem.
- I only serve his Eternity to Deidar and the council of MagDest.
- Don't be modest, you've already been in this headquarters for more than two years. Well, did you have any problems? Or do you have something to report to me personally?
- There are no losses on our side, there are several seriously wounded with burns, they are already undergoing a full recovery procedure with a support group. The saboteurs used alchemical fire charges similar to napalm with shrapnel on one object. They had enough of them to demolish a dozen more businesses like this. We have covered one of their headquarters. It is worth guessing about a certain underground alchemist supplier. Kil took a deep breath. - We also have one hostage of saboteurs.
"Damn savages, what don't they have? - the head of the Inquisition department asked a rhetorical question. - What kind of hostage?
- A twenty-year-old girl, we are trying to establish her identity.
- I doubt that you will be able to identify a commoner, although maybe her parents took care of her and entered her in the birth register, giving us a hint at the same time. If you find something, act as always. Free.
- There is! - Kil was already out the door when the head called him.
- By the way, Kil, I have news for you. You have to go to the capital, to the main office of the Inquisition, I don't know what they want there, but they said it's important.
"..." Kil just nodded and left.
