Chapter 125 - CAPTIVES

The young girl lay motionless on the cold operating table, her innocent features illuminated by the sterile overhead lights. Ophelia's eyes softened as she took in the sight, relieved to see that the girl appeared untouched by the organization's cruel experiments.

Her attention shifted to the blast door, an imposing barrier that stood between her and whatever lay beyond. Ophelia's trained instincts kicked in as she surveyed the room for any surveillance devices or hidden bugs. To her surprise, there were none in sight.

A calculating gleam entered her eyes as she devised a plan. She couldn't resist the urge to take a peek beyond that closed door, to gather any additional information that could aid her cause. But how would she bypass the door's formidable lock? It was likely controlled remotely, leaving her without a conventional means of entry.

Ophelia called upon her body modification abilities, her form shifting and contorting as she transformed into a slim, serpentine shape. Her malleable body allowed her to squeeze through the tightest of spaces, and in this case, it would be the air vent.

Slithering silently across the floor, she approached the air vent with a cautious determination. With a deft twist of her body, she compressed herself into a size small enough to fit through the narrow opening. The cool air of the ventilation system embraced her as she began her stealthy journey.

Crawling through the labyrinthine network of ducts, Ophelia made her way toward the blast door from the inside. She moved with precision and grace, her movements almost ethereal as she navigated the complex web of passages.

Finally, she reached a vent that offered a clear view of the other side.

Ophelia's gaze swept across the vast expanse of cells that stretched beyond the blast door. The sight before her was both haunting and chilling.

Row upon row of enclosures contained humans of all ages, their faces etched with despair and desperation. The air was heavy with a palpable sense of suffering and fear. Her eyes narrowed as she observed the extreme security measures surrounding each cell.

High-tech weaponry and robotic sentinels stood guard, their cold, unyielding presence a stark reminder of the organization's commitment to keeping their captives contained.

But one cell caught Ophelia's attention, its label bearing the name "X-23." As her gaze locked with that of a young girl inside, her heart sank. The girl couldn't have been more than sixteen, her expression a mix of defiance and vulnerability. Ophelia's eyes flickered toward the two claws protruding from the girl's knuckles, reminiscent of Logan's adamantium-infused skeleton. She is slashing her arm, only to see it heal instantly. But there were machine enhancements on her bodyโ€”she had clearly inherited her mutant abilities from Wolverine himself or his cells at least.

As if sensing Ophelia's presence, X-23 turned her head toward the vent separating them. Her gaze met Ophelia's for an instant before shifting away. It was obvious... Since someone was sneaking through the air vent, that someone must be a spy. So, she decided to not draw unwanted attention because she might be her ticket out of this hell hole.

Ophelia's eyes darted across the room, absorbing every detail with precision and focus. She meticulously analyzed the security measures in place, noting the positioning of the robotic sentinels and their scanning patterns. Her trained mind calculated their blind spots and vulnerabilities, searching for any weaknesses she could exploit.

She observed the intricate web of surveillance cameras strategically placed throughout the facility. Each camera's coverage area was carefully assessed, and Ophelia mentally mapped out their blind points, where her presence would go undetected. She silently praised her luck for the absence of cameras in the immediate vicinity, giving her a temporary advantage.

Her gaze then shifted to the floor, scanning for any tripwires or pressure-sensitive tiles that might trigger an alarm. Ophelia's eyes traced invisible lines across the ground, using her sharp instincts to detect subtle signs of hidden traps. She cautiously stepped over potential danger zones, careful not to trigger any alarms that could jeopardize her mission.

As she continued her surveillance, Ophelia observed the programmed habits of the robotic sentinels, noting their predictable movements and response times. Their patterns became ingrained in her mind, allowing her to anticipate their actions and devise strategies to bypass them undetected.

The CCTVs stationed throughout the facility became another element in her analysis. She scrutinized their coverage distances, noting areas where they might overlap or leave blind spots. Ophelia mentally calculated the optimal paths to navigate through the facility, avoiding the watchful eyes of the cameras.

But amidst her strategic observations, her attention was constantly drawn back to the cells. The sight of the tormented mutants and captive humans stirred a mix of anger and sorrow within her. She couldn't help but feel a deep connection to their suffering, fueled by the memories of her great-granddaughter, Hina, and the unimaginable cruelty she had endured.

Ophelia's determination grew stronger, fueled by her anger and the burning desire to free those trapped within the confines of the facility. Every piece of information she gathered, every security measure she analyzed, brought her closer to executing her plan with precision and efficiency.

...

Ophelia's mind raced, weighing the options and consequences of reaching out for external assistance. She knew that contacting Nick Fury or Tony Stark for help would be ideal, considering their resources and experience in dealing with organizations like AMO. However, the location of the facility posed a significant challenge.

From the outside, the facility appeared as a hospital, with innocent patients seeking medical care. Any visible disturbance or confrontation could potentially endanger their lives and cause panic. Ophelia couldn't risk the safety of those who were unaware of the horrors unfolding beneath their feet.

To add to her dilemma, there was a school situated adjacent to the building. Any disturbance within the facility could potentially spill over to the school grounds, putting countless innocent lives at risk. Ophelia's heart weighed heavily with the burden of responsibility, knowing that she had to find a way to neutralize the threat without endangering those around her.

As she pondered her next move, a flicker of recollection illuminated her mind. Blink, a mutant with the ability to open portals, was a member of the X-Force, a team dedicated to protecting mutant rights and combating organizations like AMO. Ophelia's memory served her well, recalling Blink's remarkable talent for transportation.

And if she adds on Cynthia and the others, they would be able to bring the captives out from their cells and capture the AMO executives with a single strike.

Ophelia retraced her steps back to the previous operating chamber where Jessica Jones was being held. She noticed Jessica had begun to regain her consciousness.

Ophelia gently woke Jessica from her unconscious state, speaking in hushed tones to avoid drawing unnecessary attention. "Jessica, listen to me carefully, and don't react," she whispered, her voice filled with urgency. "I need you to stay here and keep a low profile. I have a plan to get everyone out of here, but I can't take you with me right now."

Jessica blinked groggily, trying to process the situation. "What's going on? Where are you going?" she asked, her voice still laced with sleepiness.

Ophelia quickly explained, "I'm giving you this tracker," she said, handing Jessica a small device, "and this communication device. If anything goes wrong, or if you see an opportunity to escape, use it to contact me."

Jessica quickly took the devices and put it into her underwear. Even in her groggy state, she acted fast, "Be careful..." She mumbled.

"Yeah, you too," Ophelia said as she took a sedative from the table and injected into Jessica's body, "I have halved the dosage. You should be able to retain your consciousness. I will see you soon."

With that, Ophelia hurriedly made her way back through the facility, her mind focused on the task at hand. As she passed by the guards stationed outside the operating chamber, she took command of the situation with an air of authority.

"I want you to move the new subject to a special cell," Ophelia commanded, her voice projecting confidence. "She is a unique specimen, and I will continue my experiments with her tomorrow. Ensure that she is kept under tight security."

The guards nodded, accustomed to following Ophelia's orders without question. They immediately sprang into action, preparing to transfer the new subject to a more secure location.

...

Ophelia exited the building without alarms.

But she knows that she needs to act fast because AMO will eventually find out that she is not the real Dr. Andrews.

After going to a safe distance from the facility, she called Cynthia.
