Chapter 4 - Darkness

As soon as darkness took Rashid in its cold embrace, he opened his eyes in an instant.

"Ugh..." Rashid groaned, massaging his throbbing head. He blinked his eyes and looked around. But he found himself unable to see anything but total darkness.

"Have I been kidnapped?" After all he had been through, he didn't overlook that possibility. Even though he remembered being on the top floor of the Astou building, he knew that there were ways to get around most of the security measures put in place to deter would-be assassins. After all, the world was constantly evolving. And no matter how secure a system might be, there would always be someone out there up to the challenge of breaking it. And with a team of highly trained individuals, it would only be a matter of taking out the guards and making their way to him.

With that thought, he reached out and tattooed his surroundings. Rashid soon froze. He felt nothing around him. He tatted up, down, left and right, but there was nothing. No matter what he did, he didn't touch anything solid. Yet logic dictated that there would always be solid ground to support the weight of something, otherwise it would just fall down and down and down....

But he didn't feel himself falling. He even had a vague feeling that he was sitting on something, but his hands told him otherwise.

"Maybe I'm unconscious or in a coma?" He thought.

He had heard of people being aware of their surroundings while in a coma, but still unable to wake up.

Before he could delve any further into the strange situation he found himself in, a ball of light appeared some distance in front of him.

At first, it wasn't enough to dispel the surrounding darkness, but it grew brighter and brighter.

Soon it was so bright that he was forced to close his eyes.
