Chapter 2
A few hours later the girl stirred and opened her eyes.
She wasn't really surprised. If she was being held by men, she probably knew that she wouldn't be able to fight them off, even if she wanted to try to escape from their clutches. Besides, even if she did manage to escape, they would kill her immediately. So, what else could she do except let them do what they pleased?
When she tried to sit up, she realized that something was wrong. Her head ached and she had to take several deep breaths just to keep from passing out again. She remembered how bad she had felt when she awoke earlier that morning, and now she wondered why she hadn't gotten sick sooner. It had only been an hour or two since she'd passed out, right? Hadn't her body healed? And why did she feel so weak?
Her thoughts whirled around in her head, confusing her further. She didn' understand anything anymore. Everything felt very disjointed, almost like an episode of a TV show that she had watched once, where a character would get lost in thought and become confused.
But she couldn't give herself more time to dwell on her confusion. She needed to know exactly how long she had been taken hostage. There could be any number of reasons, ranging from kidnapping to ransom. Perhaps she should ask someone where she was. Perhaps if she told the person, they would help her.
She pushed the blanket aside slowly and got onto her feet. As soon as she stood, she realized that it had gotten much colder than she had expected.
