5 hours passed since then, Lucas and Sarah sat together and talked while sucking some of that liquid from small cut stems that she prepared.
The plant was big and the liquid didn't come out because of how thick it was, so it was preserved and they didn't worry about it being finished quickly due to its size.
"Why are you looking outside again and again?" Sarah asked with skepticism, she thought that Lucas was not giving any attention to what she was saying.
Lucas looked at her expression and for once in his whole lifetime, understood the emotion of the opposite gender.
"Sorry if it disturbed you, it's just that I can tell some uses of each plant in front of me. Do you look at that tree?" Lucas pointed at the tree that was near the opening of the shelter's territory.
"Yes?"
"That tree has a sap inside it that can help with mending wounds, it can be said that the sap is a lesser healing drink. And the good thing is that it doesn't need any processing." He said with an excited voice. Sarah giggled looking at the childish side of Lucas.
"This skill really is too great, just how many plants and trees do you know the uses about?"
"I don't know, some shows nothing while some, even if I am looking at them for the first time, I know how to use them. My only guess is... the skill level is low."
"Oh... do you mean the level written on the side of the skills? My fireball is still level 1"
"Hnm, my skills are still level 1 too, we will have to see what we can do about it."
Lucas and Sarah kept talking casually, they had just gone through a life-and-death fight with a creature that they hadn't thought to ever see in their wildest dreams.
It was with their wits and overcoming their fears that they were able to defeat the rapacious plant. Lucas was still hurting very bad and so did Sarah's knee.
Everything was going right in this strange world but still, a mistake was made. The fire of the camp was giving off dark smoke in the air that could be looked at from various kilometers.
Many gazes fell over it making them decide whether to follow this smoke or not. Some had normal survival in their mind while others were filled with malice. But one thing was confirmed, the days were going to get busy.
----
One Kilometer away,
A group of four people were staggering their way while looking in every direction. Just by one look at them, it was evident that they had been through a lot. A pale look and dirty faces and clothes. The group contained three males and a female.
One of the males looked to be around forty in age and also the head of the group while the other two looked to be in their twenties. The woman with them also looked in her forties, she had a mature aura around her that didn't falter even in this situation.
The middle-aged man's gaze fell on the sky, his eyes widened with hope. Just like that, they started moving toward the smoke with anticipation.
----
Lucas and Sarah were still inside the shelter, he had told her to get that sap from the tree he sighted before but unfortunately, they didn't have any storage to place the extracted sap for the time being. The idea was rejected quickly.
It had already been half an hour since they talked about the sap thing and the time was passed with them sitting and healing their wounds which was the most important thing.
RUSTLE RUSTLE
"Sarah, get up." Lucas whispered and took the support of the shelter's wall to get up. Sarah just nodded, she also heard the rustling of the leaves from outside the shelter meaning something had finally come knocking.
"Lucas took the spear that miraculously survived after attacking the rapacious plant so aggressively. He took that spear with him and stopped at the gate.
"Stay behind me and be ready to shoot that fireball when I tell to."
"Hnm" Sarah just nodded and looked outside with a serious face.
"Hey! There is a house here!"
"Shut up, you dimwit! Don't shout."
Lucas and Sarah heard this conversation and couldn't help but frown. The man who said the other man to shut up was also shouting loud.
RUSTLE
RUSTLE
The sound of walking kept coming, Lucas and Sarah were near the inner wall peaking outside in order to be safe from some projectiles if there were any coming toward them.
"STOP RIGHT THERE!" He shouted and got out with a groan, his back was hurting very badly.
Lucas and Sarah stepped out cautiously, ready for any danger that might come their way. They saw a group of four people, looking tired and worn out. One of the men, who looked to be the leader of the group, had spotted their shelter and was shouting with excitement.
"Thank god, we finally found someone!" The man in his twenties spoke with a shout.
"Don't shout!" Lucas exclaimed with being cautious of his voice's loudness.
The group of four looked at the boy and girl in front of them and toward the campfire that had. A big plant was just beside the campfire which made their faces pale.
"H-How is this thing here?!" Another man said while pointing at the rapacious plant's corpse.
"I said don't shout, do you not understand what I said?" Lucas said again, his eyes became sharper than before. Giving shelter to Sarah was okay but this many people was a bit tough.
"What do we do, Lucas?" Sarah asked from the back, she looked at the people with pity whose condition was worse than hers before she met Lucas.
"Hello, kid. My name is John, this is my wife, Ella and my two sons- Sean and Barney." the middle aged man said with a mild smile. Lucas still looked at him with vigilance.
He was dumb when it came to the outside world but not dumb enough to just trust any stranger he find.
"Uh... can you tell us your name?" The middle aged man said with a dry cough that made them feel how dry his throat was just from the voice.
