Chereads / THE CONCUBINE WARRIOR / Chapter 8 - The Declaration

Chapter 8 - The Declaration

Venus stayed underwater thanks to Lilet's underwater breathing device. She explored the water as she walked around the palace's rock foundation. From the start, teleporting made her life so much easier. This time, the exterminator will undoubtedly go berserk. She first made him limp by kicking his private parts. Oh, she forgot to mention that she slapped him first. She now leaps into the water in front of him.

He didn't even bother shaving. Is there a wife for him? He appears to be familiar, but does he have mistresses? Thinking of it, made her feel the stinging pain on her chest. It was not familiar to her, she ignored it to make it disappear, but it didn't. Lilet scanned the rock for an opening, swam up, and took a look around. She was on the other side of the palace from where she had jumped. She didn't want to explain herself if she use the teleporting.

She swam under the water again, this time to the opening. She came across an iron ladder and climbed it until she was above water. She noticed a narrow path leading somewhere and wondered where it might lead her. Lilet used an air cloth drier to dry her clothes. Lilet had been programmed to look after her safety and comfort.

When she arrived at the dead end, Lilet informed her that a special key was used to open the concrete wall, which had a keyhole in it. But Lilet and Luke were machines, and they could unlock doors using their built -in device on any type of simple lock to combination code to a sophisticated print security code.

When the door opened, she found herself in the midst of rogues. They looked more like trolls than rogues, actually. Rogues' eyes are typically dilated and red. They are best described as rotten rogues as their eyes were all black. Humans, unlike in the movies, became zombies due to virulence. In this world, witchcraft was used to raise the corpses of wolves or humans with wolf blood,

She was an altered wolf from a different futuristic generation. They were created to combat the mutated and more powerful rogue undead. They lack the alluring smell of flesh that drives the undead insane, unlike humans and wolves. Although the term "zombie" was applied to a variety of creatures including wolves, humans, and animals. They don't use the term in her world because the mutated creatures can still think but are driven to eat the flesh by their hunger.

Some of them can even mix with the regulars. When she came to the northern border with her father to fight the rogues. She was expecting a normal rogue, a rebel, a wild wolf who didn't accept the world's hierarchical power, but she was surprised to meet rogue-undead. She took a few of them to her spacecraft lab and studied them. She even mutated their flesh in order to study them, particularly their brain. She didn't find anything. She also studied the brain of the undead back then. She found that the undead appear to have a malfunctioning frontal lobe, the part of the brain associated with problem solving, planning and reason. It was devoured by the virus.

Undead here was different, their brains are the same of a normal. But it stopped functioning. It was a mystery to her. She was more of a realist and practical person than a dreamer and traditionalist. She wanted to know the scientific reason behind the abnormalities.

When her father told her about where they found the undead, she considered the theory of someone controlling them valid. They first emerged in the east. A family of a farmer devoured each other. She met the sorceress of the north, her father's lover, Aryana. At first, she didn't trust her as her father trusted the woman but she observed her for many months and she found nothing odd with her except that she used magic in healing process.

If magic exists, witchcraft also exists. Aryana explained that the eastern people was holding the black book- the book of the dead and the silver book was missing. In early depiction the book can counter all the curses from the black book. It will be their powerful weapons against the dark.

Looking at them, she remembered her days in the northern border. She stood there for several moments, but the undead did not move to eat her flesh. She was an uninteresting creature to them. The rotten smell of flesh was overpowering. How did the undead get here? Or who brought them here? She looked around and noticed some human bones, blood, and flesh on the wall and the floor.

She wanted to teleport the robot cleaners to eliminate the rogues and clean the place, but Lilet couldn't because the area was too confined and underground. Lilet opened the concrete door where she came from again, and dozens of robot cleaners appeared. Whoever owns them here will go insane if she or he discovers that the place has become spotless clean.

She climbed the stairs after opening another concrete door. She passed through the iron doors to the next level, which was a dungeon. Lilet scanned everyone in the cell. When the guards noticed her, she put them to sleep by using her combat skills.

"You came from the back, not the front," the man inside the cell observed. She couldn't see him clearly because it was dark. "You are neither human nor wolf like us. You are "in between," or perhaps more wolf than human. "Fifteen strong warriors could open the door you opened, but you did it alone," he explained.

Lilet informed her that he was a former general stationed in the east who had been charged with treason. "Say I have a device that allows me to open that door without using my strength. Come over here, General Gan, and let me examine you," she said.

"I am shackled to the wall, I can't come to you. I won't ask either why you knew my name." She was using her night vision mode, which allowed her to see his profile but not his appearance. "I'll come to you then," she said, unlocking the door. She saw the thinly attractive man in front of her using the illuminator from her all-around weapon.

"Oh, I think you should eat and drink something," she said. A basket of food and drinks appeared in front of them, as well as in all of the cells. She heard a hungry noise, tearing of meat, and the clicking of glasses. "Oh, let me first free you," she said. His shackles were suddenly released. The man took the sandwich and devoured it.

Venus waited for him to say something.

"Are you like her? " he inquired.

"Speak clearly," she said.

"The witch from the east, who pretended to be fragile and innocent. You seemed like her as you used magic as her," he said, drinking the whiskey that came from her world. "I had hoped to drink such fine plum," he added.

"I haven't used magic yet, I am open to the idea if I know how to use it. I have a blood of a witch in me. I need to activate it. I've only used some devices and equipment," she explained.

"An inconspicuous device?" He arched his brow, not believing her.

"From where are you?" he inquired.

"I'm from up North," she replied.

The man looked at her intently, saying, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend," and smiling broadly.

"You're a fearless man saying something like that to the queen," she remarked.

"Venus La Vandeer is my name," she said.

"The famous daughter of northern lord, known for her rare beauty and wealth. Did you meet Aryana there?" he asked.

"She's a nice lady who served my father well. I learned a lot from her," she replied

"Send her my regards, she's my Aunt," he said.

"I will, if I get to visit my father. I think I need to go, the guards will wake up soon. Don't worry, I got rid of those undead with my device," she said, winking at him.

"Nice meeting you, General; I'll release you later," she said. "Do you know someone who was known as "The Exterminator?" she remembered.

"How could I not know him? He was the one I served, and I am still loyal to him."

"Are you under his command?", she asked.

"The Exterminator commands all of the generals," he replied.

She was in the hallway when she realized what he meant, she cursed several times. But Lilet transported her back under the water.

"What in the world are you doing? She yelled angrily at the robot through their communication device.

"You were not thinking clearly, and several guards are on their way. You are unable to ascend through that channel because you were careless. You let that man see your abilities. You must climb that rock wall. The king ordered a rescue mission for his favorite concubine. Everyone had been looking for you," Lilet explained.

"So, I am his favorite now?" She asked. I hate that word, it connotes to the word temporary. The queen was his favorite and now myself. For how long?"

But that didn't matter anymore. Damn! How could she have missed the king? She sighed as she remembered what she had done to him. She was certain she would be punished again.
