Later that evening, the trio arrived at Melina's residence and shop. Vivi knocked lightly on the grand door, and moments later, it swung open to reveal Rulan.
"Good evening, Madam Vivi," Rulan greeted warmly.
"Oh, it's you, boy!" Vivi exclaimed, smiling as she recognized him from earlier. "You helped me toward the gate this morning."
"I'm Rulan," he said politely, bowing slightly. "I work here. Please, come in." He stepped aside to let them enter, closing the door behind them.
As they stepped into the entryway, a deep growl rumbled through the air. Penny froze, clutching her father's arm in fear.
"What is that? A monster?!" Penny shrieked, trembling.
"Oh, that's Madam Melina's dog," Rulan explained quickly, though his own nervousness showed in his voice. "His name is Xiao. He's only friendly to people Madam Melina trusts."
