Chapter 42 - A pattern

Sol's eyes flashed with cruelty as he punched forward without hesitation!

Ren: Fiery fist!

[Awareness:14]

It seemed like all of Sol's flames raced back into his body and from it a powerful thin torrent of flame descended from above, smashing into the basilisk!

Hisss!

[Strength: 20]

Suprisingly, Sol's attack didn't work. He quickly realised the fact he was able to knock down the enemy the first time as simply because it was airborne and had no footing. Now she had taken her true form and with a strong foothold, she could not be shaken by his puny attacks!

Swish!

Sol's eyes flashed with cruelty as he noticed something move so fast he only had a moment to think!

[Bloodline activated: Cerberus!]

[+3 to all stats]

Ren: Fiery fist!

Sol quickly awakened his bloodline power and struck forward, releasing another condensed wave of fierce flames but even that couldn't save him!

[Awareness:17]

Boom!

The tail of the serpent tore through the flames and slammed into its target sending him spiralling back into the thick lush forest ahead of the lake!

Blegh!

Boom!

Sol slammed into a few branches, shattering them along the way before hitting the ground and rolling a couple of times before stopping.

Blegh!

Sol spat out a mouthful of blood and he felt his hands twisted in ways it shouldn't be. Bone cracking sounds filled fthe forest as Sol's regenerative ability when using his bloodline began to manifest.

In a few minutes his body had returns to normal and his wounds healed but his mind was mentally spent. He knew against a mighty foe like the basilisk, he may end up needing to use the Hellfire bloodline to win but that will render him useless for a week plus he would lose a stat point.

This test was meant to only last a week at most, so he refused to lose everything just because of this single foe.

"You finally made up your mind to fight? I thought one hit would be enough to break your will just like all those who have come before you" A feminine voice range across the Forest and Sol frowned.

His cold gaze remained pinned on a certain figure but he didn't dare speak yet. His eyes darted around the location and only now did he begin to notice the bones, skulls and remnants of previous victims.

"Nice collection, but I won't be a part of it…." Sol said with a calm look on his face as a notification popped up in front of him.

Ding!

[Defeat the sole basilisk survivor….]

[Reward unknown]

Before he simply wanted to destroy the enemy for the sake of doing it but since the system has decided to attach a reward to it, Sol was sure the enemy wasn't simple.

Lone basilisk?

A Survivor?

What exactly happened?

Sol looked at the message and took into account that the system simply asked him to defeat and not kill. He considered a few things before concluding that the mission was not aimed at killing this beast and it definitely wasn't just surviving.

Why can't you be more descriptive?

Sol cursed the system in his mind but even the enemy wouldn't give him the chance to do this properly.

Swish!

From the forest a black figure shot towards Sol like a spear with a blade sticking out of its mouth.

[Speed 15]

[Strength: 15]

Hmph!

Hak!

Sol didn't even hesitate and threw an open palm at the attack as fierce flames exploded from his palms and struck at the enemy.

[Awareness: 15]

Booom!

Pfft!

Sol frowned as the blade pierced through the flames, stabbing into his palm cursing his blood to pour on his face but he still remained calm as if everything that has happened so far is a part of his plan!

Bang!

As soon as the blade stabbed into his palm stretching so far, it stabbed knot his shoulder, Sol revealed a crazed smile as his body dove forward, grasping the enemy by the throat and slamming her into the ground!

Bam!

Grrrr!

[Hellfire activated!]

Sol's eyes let out a darkish green light as his palm which was stabbed instantly lit up with darkish green flames!

What?

The enemy let out a gasp of shock as she watched the darkish green flames and her eyes revealed immense fear.

"You are his son?" She muttered with a surprised tone and almost instantly all the killing intent radiating from the lady vanished in an instant.

It seemed like he was meeting a different person entirely.

Swish!

Sol's eyes widened in shock as the lower half of the lady, which was that of a serpent, receded and soon became human feet.

"You possess the Hellfire, surely you must be his son!" The basilisk lady screamed with a strange sense of urgency in her tone.

It was like a messenger who finally met her long awaited master and was too eager to give him the news.

Seeing this reaction, Sol frowned deeply. He wondered if the problem was with him or he was just imagining it but then again, he was sure he wasn't imagining things.

At every stage of his life, he realized he has always been following a certain pattern. The system simply gives him what he needs just before he actually needs it.

While it may all seem coincidental, Sol could tell something was wrong with all of this. It felt like an arrangement made by someone who has already predicted all his future activities and has put everything in place.

It gave him the feeling of the existence of a God and that's not something a man like Sol wants to see or hear. The thought of his life placed in the hands of someone he knew nothing about made him feel insecure.

"What do you know about the Hellfire? How do you know me?" Sol asked with his hand still placed on her face.

His gut feeling told him, all he needed to do was to reveal the Hellfire and the enemy will react to it and strangely it worked.
