Chapter 42 - Wild goose chase

[Clayton POV]

We called the police as soon as we arrived home and they went and examined the car, and I called Conan who returned later with Taryn.

"So, what is the plan?" Conan asks.

"I don't know, the police will look for the CCTV footage of the parking lot tomorrow morning and we will take it from there," I say sounding deflated.

"Do you have a clue who could it be?"

Who would want to hurt my wife, her father, her ex, maybe Hailee.

"I have a few, but I doubt they would do that after the punishment I gave them," I say. Maybe one of my enemies, but my enemies are only business men, could they have kidnapped my wife.

"You can never know, we should never leave any stones unturned Clayton," Conan says, "come on let us visit everyone one by one to see if they really did take her."

We first visited her father, who based on his pitiful situation didn't seem to know.

"You ruined my life what makes you think I would kidnap your wife?" he shouts, "I don't know where she is okay."

"You better be telling the truth," I growled making him roll his eyes.

"Maybe she ran away with an even richer man, she is her father's daughter after all."

I could not hold myself from punching his ugly face, how dare he speak like that about my wife. He looks at me shocked with a bloody nose, as I glare at him angrily.

"You better be telling the truth about not knowing where she is because you will gravely regret it if you are involved." Conan says angrily.

We left Ore Huxley's home, are they okay, did they eat, I kept asking myself those questions, it has only been a few hours, but it doesn't stop me from worrying.

"Who to next?"

"I don't know maybe her ex, but he doesn't have the power to kidnap her."

"Let's just go," Conan says.

The moment James opens the door and sees me he is shocked, I hope it is because my wife and daughter are with him but no, they are not.

"Do you think we can go against you after you ruined our careers?" Lola his wife says.

"I didn't ruin your careers you ruined it yourselves, I just let patients know that you don't mind sleeping with their partner," I say coldly. "Seem you don't have what I am looking for, goodnight."

Conan and I travelled the whole night, from door to door with all the possible people who could be suspects in my wife's disappearance. But no one seemed to know where she could have been.

"Is that all?"

"There is Hailee Leech, but she is in prison."

But she could have pulled strings from there, or told someone here to kidnap my wife, this woman seems to be a cockroach that doesn't want to die.

"But we can never be too careful let us go and visit her," I say, Conan drives us to the prison.

And though they told us no visitors they had made exception, well they got bribed of course they would make exception.

"What are you doing here? Is it enough you got me in here?" she squeals.

"My wife and daughter are missing," I say, I glare at her.

"So, you believe it is me, you destroyed my life Clayton, I got a life sentence without parole, and you think I would kidnap your wife and daughter, do you take me as dumb?" she argues, it seems jail made her a bit mature.

"So, you didn't have them kidnapped?"

"No, ugh…... maybe the finally realized that you are a monster and ran away," she accuses, "I can't believe I used to like you."

"Still not taking accountability for trying to kill my grandmother and killing your husband," I chuckle, "you are the one who did the crimes that put you in here I just highlighted them."

"Well, you can go to hell along with your precious wife and daughter," she shouts.

"Well enjoy your life sentence, and if I find out you have something to do with my wife's disappearance, you will get more than a life sentence."

I stand to leave as she yells all sorts of insults to me.

We have clearly reached a dead end, no one seemed to know anything about her disappearance.

"We should go home; it seems they didn't do anything." Conan says.

We return home, grandmother and Cyan refuse to sleep, as they are waiting for the police to update them.

The whole house doesn't sleep until morning, Taryn helps with making them food, which they refuse as well.

I don't want it to be the way we are all thinking; I want it to be a different story.

"Just hold forth until then Cain, I can't come to work today," I tell him, even though they refused to sleep everyone ended up sleeping on the respective couches they were sitting.

I had called Joshua who helped me get a good detective on the case, and though it was not 48 hours since the disappearance, they still took it seriously because of the state the car was found in.

We waited until noon, when the detective finally came to give us an update.

"It was a kidnapping."

Those words were quick to send shivers and fear throughout my body, Cyan had started crying along with grandmother.

"We have a CCTV footage of the whole thing; I would like to ask of you would recognise the person who kidnapped your wife."

Conan had taken the footage and projected it so we can see, every moment before the kidnapping is clear.

Kaleah rushed from the mall to her car, she quickly put Zoey on her seat, she had locked her car and started typing and the H*nda crashed into her car and the airbag inflating making her lose her phone.

A short fair-skinned man came out the H*nda, forcefully opened the door, Kaleah was still trying to retrieve the phone from under her seat when the car door opened.

It was quite bold of him to not even wear anything to cover his face, it was more disgusting how he licked her face once she was knocked on consciously.

"That b*startd" I cursed; the others shrieked with disgust at the scene, "How dare he put his disgusting tongue at my wife."

"Clayton calm down," grandma says, we continue to watch the footage as he drags my wife to his car, and worst of all, the parking lot is empty.

His face became clearer after he had put my unconscious wife in the car and went back for Zoey, with that Cyan jumped from the couch. "I know him?" she shouts.

"You do?" the detective asks, happy that the is a new break to the case.

"He is the guy, the guy who was stalking her, she moved in with us after he had started stalking her," Cyan says.

I remember how Kaleah called Cyan about the stalking; I just didn't think he would come back after so long. Clearly this fool does not know who he is messing with.

"Ellen, his name is Ellen mule."
